Short Stories

Looking for collections of short stories that are realistic. I've heard Raymond Carver and Chekhov are supposed to be good, but who else?

    O. Henry, De Maupassant and Chekhov are the Big 3 in short stories. I can personally vouch for O. Henry's skill in dialogue and Chekhov's deep analysis of human interactions. I haven't read much Maupassant but the ones I've read are quite enjoyable

I've heard this name before. What's her deal? What's she about?

        Paul Bowels.

She was a solid writer but hampered as a writer by her religion, which she acknowledged but never tried to move past for some reason. Can be a bit tiresome if you are not christian/catholic, she does not go on and on about religion or anything but there is a definite slant and blindspot on her part.

Yeah she’s kinda a one trick pony. Unless you’re really into that slant, once you’ve read her best few stories there is little reason to read more

Lol, I could say the same about most other short story writers who are irreligious

Most irreligious short story authors are hindered by their catholicism? News to me. You are getting triggered by something she openly acknowledged and is fairly obvious unless you are also blinded by your faith.
