Something that's part of a proprietary ecosystem that tracks you? No probably not. FOSS software that works with any ring would be pretty useful though.

Sounds like it lasts about as long as a smartband, so what do you get over one of those?

How did people even live before this marvelous technology?

It may sound stupid, but measuring how much you slept each day gives a useful measurement. (it is relatively difficult to get an estimate of when you start to sleep)

I have an oura. Its kind of neat seeing all the data and if you pay attention you can dial your sleep in but it takes a lot of sacrifice

i used oura gen 3 ring almost a year and couldn't get anything interesting out of it. if i have had a bad/good night, i can feel it without reading it from an app.

true, odd tho that you didnt get anything from the metrics. for me I can see when I have caffeine/alcohol at night, a big meal before bed, a nice cardio session etc. and when Im feeling ill the temperature bead is up a few degrees. all of which influence whether I had a good or bad night of rest, making me more mindful of my future choices

are there any of these that will sync with an open source program on a computer instead of with a creepy cloud service app on a phone?

It's weird. Ever since I started using a regular watch again I feel that my sleep has gotten way better. Maybe because I don't look at stupid bar diagrams after waking up.

They sell your metrics to marketers and insurers that pass it on to law enforcement and government agencies and private buyers. They have your location and basic fitness data.

I have never ever bothered using my smart watch for muh health, I use it mostly as a replacement for my phone as I am too lazy to lift my phone up.
I am not going to bother using this device either unless it serves the same purpose.
