Have you tried realizing that you don't need your desktop environment to "Look Good" and only need to use it as a tool to accomplish the actual tasks that you want to use your computer for?
If so, look up Sway.
Oh wait, I'm not actually suppose to shill that because it requires you to actually stop fricking around with your desktop environment as a hobby and start actually doing things.
funny you say that, to start out with sway you have to edit your ~/.config/sway/config and install a lot of weird programs like dmenu or rofi and figure out how they work. meanwhile kde just werks out of the box
Having no and/or a lack of appreciation for aesthetics, focusing entirely on function, is a clear indicator of autism. What in trying to say is that this thing you think is frivolous is actually quite important to non autistic people. You not understanding why that is isn't a fault of theirs, it's a fault of yours. Maybe therapy can help 🙂
how is the resource usage? qt4+ and plasma are pretty efficient. kde3 was definitely peak, i appreciate that kde devs try to keep all functionality and keep all options until they are totally bitrotted out but with how plasma has gone from day 1 till now I can also see why gnome kept it "simple." even though their idea of a DE is useless to me
Function over form.
This is why I use Plasma.
A PC is suppose to be sensible and easy to use.
Gnome is for tablets and has a lot of friction because of it.
You know I'm glad there's people with some taste like OP that look at breeze and realize how garbage it just fricking looks overall
I couldn't put my finger on it for a while but besides the decorations and all, it's the padding. It's just all over the fricking place. You can download anything from the KDE store and it'll still look like dogshit.

if it was function over form it would look like windows 2000 but without animations, transitions, transparency or font rendering
it's a shitty DE with a shitty theme and shitty reliability
Why it on by default? Doesn't look like it's form over function to me if you have to first disable those. That's just cope. Why turn those on if they look like shit?
windows 2000 looks don't make sense on high res displays, animations and transitions can improve ux and make navigation easier, font rendering helps readability.
transparency with blur is pretty useless eyecandy thought
>windows 2000 looks don't make sense on high res displays,
Have you used classic windows on a modern screen? It still holds up very well (better than modern gtk with their shitty font rendering). >animations and transitions can improve ux
that's just cope for people who are a bit slow
there should be no "navigation" you open up the application and switch between them with the taskbar
that's your navigation >font rendering helps readability
it doesn't as long as you have subpixel rendering >transparency with blur
also drains your battery faster

I'M FRICKING NAVIGATING LOOK AT MY FOUR "WORK SPACES" LOOK HOW I WORK ON THEM
I JUST SWITCH BETWEEN THEM FOR NO FRICKING REASON
LOOK HOW BUSY I LOOK I KNOW STUPID SHORT CUTS
LOOK AT MY FUNKY START MENU IT HAS SO MANY ANIMATIONS
LOOK AT MY CURSOR IT JUMPS AROUND LIKE ME BECAUSE I HAVE ADHD HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAA
>if it was function over form it would look like windows 2000 but without animations, transitions, transparency or font rendering >it's a shitty DE with a shitty theme and shitty reliability
Do you even have reading comprehension?
I was comparing it to fricking gnome, where the statement is true. Also when I'm talking about function over form, I don't mean function-ONLY, that not what function over form means, it means you prioritize function which comparing to gnome, yes, that's exactly what's happening.
Is anyone else using KDE in containers? I recently set up some kubernetes executor gitlab runners to run CI workloads with single/multi-GPU and a fully isolated X display, and it's working surprisingly well.
plasma theme explorer create a new one and then modify as you like. Keep in mind however that random applications will still break because linux doesn't have a uniform look.
Why is this ugly broken shit on by default and why have they not bothered fixing it for a new major release? It's broken across any combination of amd/nvidia/x11/wayland so don't even give me that. It's been broken since plasma 5 and it's still broken for plasma 6.
Holy fuuuuck I just noticed a huge UX mistake with this. It's a radio button. But guess what? You can actually DESELECT it entirely to disable any effect on your windows.
>Global Theme: Fluent >Colors: QogirDark >Application Style: Oxygen >GTK Theme: Fluent >Plasma Syle: Fluent >Window Decorations: Qogir-dark [No window borders] >Icons: Breeze Dark >Cursors: Future-cyan Cursors >Splash Screen: Fluent >Login Screen (SDDM): Breeze >Boot Splash Screen: arch-mac-style
Most of these don't seem to be available for 6 even though they work for 6.
I've never used one before plasma 6, and I find it's actually very pleasant. The dodge feature and the way it hides is just as good as a static at the bottom with auto hide.
there's a breeze window decoration fork called "klassy" and it's very customizable, I use it because I don't like the default and how it's rounded on top and angled at the bottom
step 1) recompile with lewd konqis
My interest is piqued. Teach me, master.
dont use breeze lmao
I want to use Reactionary but it hasn't been updated for 6 yet.
I guess the patented, just wait™ is the best option until KDE 6 is more fleshed out,
or finding a different theme/using a different DE
looks like the author is busy working on an XP theme
looking good imo
this looks like complete trash tired of these copies that look nothing like the originals
Why the frick they always copy the ugly Luna theme instead of any of the cool ones.
i want wayland to just work for me. god damnit nvidia, stop being Black folk
what the frick is this "logo"?
idk
What could it be...

Or just don't? That's an option too you know?
okay let me take your advice
>install sway
>have to configure it first
yeah frick off Black person

install gnome.
by downgrading to 3.5 http://trinitydesktop.org/
That looks comfy.

Looks good, but what are the downsides of doing this?
>downsides
for you: frogs are scanned for and autodeleted from your drive
You don't, that's part of the German aesthetic
I'm german and can confirm this
Explain, I'm using plasma with the breeze theme.
see
You cant, install fvwm or windowmaker instead
dont get me wrong, i love kde, majority of its apps, and use 5. but sheesh is it such a boring de in the looks department.
Choose the Oxygen style and you're good to go

You're using a dark theme, why would you care about anything looking good?
Getting used to how it looks.

not even windows 2000 but like gnome 2, xfce or mate
In plasma you can disable all of this in the options tho.

Use Dark Breeze, reduce taskbar height by half. Switch application menu to "list with icons". Remove date from the clock.
And yeah close that moronic Places pane in Dolphin, it's disgusting.
Is anyone else using KDE in containers? I recently set up some kubernetes executor gitlab runners to run CI workloads with single/multi-GPU and a fully isolated X display, and it's working surprisingly well.

>So how do I make KDE 6 actually look good?
you can't, is ugly by desing.
whats the problem?
>he cant see the obvious problem
I don't see a problem with that. It's settings panel. That "reset" button is stupid but other than that it's fine.
you have no taste

I just want my alt-tab to be instant without having to watch the popup fade away after I alt-tab. Is there a way to do that?
that just turns off the popup. I still like the popup I just want it to go away immediately when I let go with no animation
this made it less annoying i guess, i just want no animations on alt tab tbh
Holy fuuuuck I just noticed a huge UX mistake with this. It's a radio button. But guess what? You can actually DESELECT it entirely to disable any effect on your windows.
I don't speak paki
Leck meinen Arsch du Schwuchtel
>Leck meinen Arsch du Schwuchte
Maybe there's an option to do that in task switcher?
uninstall
i'm still on kde 5 and i don't know why
what linux distribution?
parrot, it ships with mate but i installed kde because i like it more

A floating taskbar is so ugly

they really went and implemented everything wrong with both macos and windows 11 at the same time
switch to xfce instead
Find a theme and icon pack you like, fiddle with the layout etc. There's a gruvbox theme I've used for years, very comfy.
there's a breeze window decoration fork called "klassy" and it's very customizable, I use it because I don't like the default and how it's rounded on top and angled at the bottom
Uninstall it and use Cinnamon.
