Sounds like this guy I got in an argument with once who was claiming the entire internet would crash once they ran out of IPv4 addresses. It became apparent after 5 minutes that he didn't know what he was talking about and was making up total bullshit.

Elon's model of the web was outdated by 20 years. Maybe an "everything app" can exist when there is one large service that everybody uses and many small satellites outside of it. In the modern web, everybody uses just about 4 sites for everything- google, facebook, reddit, twitter, and none of them have the centrality or extensibility to absorb all of the others. If Myspace made a big move in 2006 maybe we could have seen something like that.

WeChat is pretty close to being an Everything App in China. It's not completely out of the question that one could take off in the west, but I don't see any signs of Twitter becoming that app.

It would take the government funding and mandating such an app as well as policing the internet like China.

inaccurate. the international finance and globalism bloc is a completely different group of political troublemakers than the MIC moneywasting bloc that endlessly rails for war in the middle east at any cost (in particular, when it is costly). look into the recent news about george soros sponsoring pro-palestine riots. the rich israelites who want the west to become a cesspit of brown minimum wage workers WANT you to support a free palestine because pretending that Israel is an illegitimate and oppressive white ethnostate is another angle that they want to use to destroy the west

Not defending Elon because I think he's a turbogrifter, but I can't imagine the clusterfrick of a legacy codebase that twitter is after 15 years of rapid scaling.

Its funny watching Elon run twitter into the ground exactly like a hypersensitive moderator from every single online forum from years ago. He needs to learn how to run a single app before he can make the "Everything" app.

How has it been run into the ground? He's owned it for 18 months and it's still the premier social media platform for breaking news. There was no mass migration to mastodon or whatever like everyone said there would be.

You could have just googled it. Let's see what the news says.
    >March 6 (Reuters) - Elon Musk said on Wednesday that his social media platform X could soon receive approval for a money transmitter license in New York, putting the platform a step closer to offering payment features.
    >While speaking at the Morgan Stanley technology, media and telecom conference, Musk also said X could receive its license in California in the next month or so, while getting the New York approval could be "a few months away".
    >Since acquiring the company formerly known as Twitter in 2022, the billionaire has sought to turn it into an "everything app" like Tencent's (0700.HK), opens new tab dominant WeChat app in China, with features beyond social media, including the ability to send money to other X users.
    >To offer services across the U.S., experts say X will need a money transmitter license in each state, and Musk has previously said that approval in New York and California would be the most consequential. Those populous states are also known for relatively lengthy approval processes.
    https://www.reuters.com/technology/musk-says-x-is-considering-removing-likes-reposts-content-2024-03-06/
So he's waiting for NY and California to issue financial licenses so X can be used to make payments and transfer money

It became Elon's brain droppings app.

The axiomatic error undermining much of Western Civilization is “weak makes right”.

If someone accepts, explicitly or implicitly, that the oppressed are always the good guys, then the natural conclusion is that the strong are the bad guys. — Elon Musk
