You don't learn social engineering by reading books.

      Anonymous

how do you learn it if you didn't pick it up in real life up to that point

        Anonymous

you don't, social engineering is exclusively for giga-normies who have had thousands of hours of experience with social situations to test out how people work.

          >giga-normies
Anyone can learn it just by being shown a few examples.

          >social engineering is exclusively for giga-normies who have had thousands of hours of experience with social situations
          *Kevin Mitnick blocks your path*

          >At age 12, Mitnick got a bus driver to tell him where he could buy his own ticket punch for "a school project", and was then able to ride any bus in the greater LA area using unused transfer slips he found in a dumpster next to the bus company garage.

            >wow wtf I'm a genius
            no you're just desperate

            Anonymous

he socially manipulated the bus driver into telling him the exact address of the store that provided the hole punchers used in their transit system and then lied to the shopkeep about his dad being a bus driver to get the guy to sell him the hole puncher

why would you think that telling this story means that I must think he's a genius? it's just clever for a 12 year old who wasn't a "giga-normie with thousands of hours of experience", is all

Humans aren't rational creatures, and any system more complex than a pendulum with more than 1 joint is completely impenetrable to them.
Social engineering is like giving a monkey a hammer and telling him to work on your car: Best case, he drops it and fricks off.

no and wikipedia is not very relaible. I fount this after reading parts of the book and reading low rated Amazon reviews and coming to the same conclusion. Here are quotes from a review i think sums up the book well:
        > The author accomplishes very little over the course of the book's 300ish pages, except for maybe telling repeatedly the same boring story about his duping of a CEO.
        > The section on micro expressions is laughable; instead of a discourse on micro expressions, the author tells us that a happy person smiles and a sad person frowns.
        > misspellings and grammatical errors appear frequently
the book is a cash grab that gives non-information. I actually think the author is really good at social engineering if he managed to get people to read his shitty book.
