Some games don't work on Linux because they require kernel level anticheat which is a huge security flaw that shouldn't exist in the first place. Windows users are literally proud running malware on their computer at this point.

Anticheat shouldn't run on the client side anyway but on the server side, there is no excuse other than incompetent developers
I've had a feeling that, without it making technical sense, it's really just a trap to be able to sue for circumvention (still nonsense, but a company, Activision I think, has already tried)

Latency is unrelated, anticheat does not need to be real time. A server side anticheat would take all the information the clients send it and validate if it's reasonable. The real problem is the server would have to effectively twin each client to do the checks which takes an enormous amount of computing resources. The clients already have the full simulation running though so it's feasible to offload the anticheat there and you get the added bonus of doing malicious anticheat activity like looking for a program called cheat engine running

that doesn't really work. The way netcode works is it simulates movement locally. It would require doing a simulation of all possible actions the player does and see if one of them interacts with any other player. It's borderline impossible for more complex games.

Yeah, but it add latency. It's still posible to run some checks on each client (some form of cooperative anticheat) and then if some other clients detect an anomaly on some player can send a request to the server to ban the player or something.

i dont believe smurfs are as big of a problem as you think. Raw technical skill gap is just another challenge you as a player should face from time to time and learn to overcome to progress. Thats the reality of anything of competitive nature, games or otherwise, sometimes you are outclassed by your opponents, something something adapt or perish.

back before we had ranking systems, every server was completely unfiltered and lower skilled players just got shafted and had to learn to get good.
The ranking systems we had on things like esea css also didn't really represent lower skill groups. I remember the lowest rank you could have on css esea would be like an above average player still that was very competent at the game.
Modern day skill groups just set you up for disappointment.

cs2 has a casual 5v5 mode where most people are pretty chill and smurfs don't even bother to show up, don't know about valo.
You ARE playing casual matches for fun, it's just you're 5'8" and there are some 6'3" blokes on a playground. Its not like Pele or Ruth personally came back from afterlife just to dunk on you.
I just think smurfs are just natural reaction against matchmaking and ability to play around them is a natural if unpleasant requirement if you want to play any sort of pvp.
Lots of hosted servers shills seem to not remember how any given random ass server was completely dominated by couple of turbosweats and you had just play around them anyway.
In duel games things were even rougher, cause playing outside prime time actually meant to play against regional or even worldwide champs.
i say modern matchmaking even with smurfs infestation is still much more forgiving than anything we had before.
playing around good players and managing to outplay them was the best part. Eventually you did it so many times, that you became the good player and then people would be trying to play around you just like you were doing before.
The best way to get better is to play against better players and get your ass handed until you know what does and doesn't work, you don't have this same effect when everyone in a match is roughly the same skillgroup.
EAC does work on linux though
EAC is useless. The only decent anti-cheats are kernel level and if you aren't going to use that there's no point in having anti-cheat at all.

Sure they are the kida that just go and buy malvare, and sure there are even people who using AHK and C++/C# skills make their own scripts/software and there are people who load their cheats as drivers/daemons and so on, but there are also people who use Arduinos and raspberry pis to diy physical cheats and also special gpu adaptors / cpu memory bus for hacks being installed on ring -1/-2/-3... level and physical in the wire level.

20 years ago we had external device cheating but now we're in the day and age where pointing a camera at a monitor and inputting keyboard/mouse control takes hours to do. So anti cheat is impossible.
