        Stop being a consumerist prostitute.
MPD does HTTP/icecast streaming, which means you can run your own streaming service without needing to take corporate globohomosexual wiener up your ass.
But you're obviously a massive moronic consumerist prostitute of a gaylord, just like the majority of the homosexuals shittifying this board up.

  14. 2 years ago

We don't need it. All you need to do is download your own music. Then use a FOSS music player to enjoy it. Streaming is a waste of bandwidth and let's be honest, most people have a catalog of music they enjoy and don't often explore outside of that catalog.

I hate when people just let their spotify shuffle music for them. All that does is promote major label crap. It's unavoidable given the financial structures in spotify.

That's why music is so bad nowadays. It's so bland and catered to the sounds of the majority.
In my youth, sounds were deliberately avoiding that because it just came out as boring derivative trash.
But back then even the most normalhomosexual normalgay was looking for something weird because most music was loud and ridiculous. Nowadays people don't like experimental things and just choose comfortable things in order to take them back to comfortable times (a response to pandemic hell). The only ones not doing that are kids being raised in this hell and people like me who have always seen that hell and are just used to it.

People are also spooked by loudness/brain issues now. I'm even having issues with it though. That's pretty universal.

Honestly I think digital music and narcissism killed it. People always wanted to go solo to avoid band issues and make more money, but they lost all the background music and different opinions that made the music unique. Now everything is just a digital keyboard and a guy rhyming to a beat. It didn't help that major labels became obsessed with cutting cost and playing it safe because they needed that next big thing.

          Anonymous

          >Honestly I think digital music and narcissism killed it.
I disagree, narcissism is music. Even self loathing music is narcissistic. It's impossible to not embed ego into it. Artists often say otherwise and they're just full of shit. The best artists are those self aware of the problem and either embrace it or try to actively reduce it methodically as possible.

          Looking at you, Aphex Twin.
That Black person is so fricking smug about his shit and it's great.

            Anonymous

            >Ego=music
Clearly you have not studied music history. In early music/art history putting yourself into your work was seen as something vulgar and base. There was this idea of hitting this idea of music perfectibility. Now does that mean that ego has no place in music absolutely not, but I believe there was a balancing act that took place in older music, but now all music is derivative and ego based. I think a well developed personality is part of what makes ego based music interesting and a lot of these people don't have a well developed personality and are very shallow making there music boring. I mean listen to anything that comes from post Malone and you'll notice how derivative it is.

web radio is technically foss, you just get url like this https://playerservices.streamtheworld.com/pls/KOMPFM.pls what gives you mp3 stream

    otherwise, streaming is shit

      Anonymous

Streaming is great when you don't have storage or there is no file on p2p or any catalogue (e.g. if the record is out of print, the band broke up and the label disintegrated).
Otherwise, it's shithouse and sounds like crap.

It's killing indie music because dumb indie labels are relying on it more than records now. And frankly I just tend to ignore bands that stream only because they don't give a shit about the music.

I had a good station in my city, but I think it got too popular and the government may have fricked it up a bit with their psyop shit.
It went from doom metal at times to now being nothing but cheesy indie pop.

Ironically, the national government broadcaster is now diversifying to dabble more with that stuff... so maybe it was subversion for the sake of control.

        Anonymous

Uh, without the scitzo, this is pretty common thanks to the depressing fact that a vast majority of radio stations are owned by a handful of companies. Smaller town/state stations getting into line with the company mandates and all.
Pop music. brings in audience and advertisers, doom metal gets you what, jimmy's goth boutique on 5th street.

Internet radio is kind of a thing still, but limping along, even the bigger operations are tiny with a few thousand listeners. Try Totalrock or something.

Something that bothered me with spotify was how easy music can turn romantic
I don't want to listen to music with awkward lyrics frick that
I mean sometimes I do if the song is really good
Now I just play a playlist on my music player on repeat
    Or internet radio/yt

Eh.. I hate how "romantic" music is nowadays (that is romance in a romeo-juliet sense, not early 19th century sense). I think shoegaze was the high water mark for that.
As for the other sense of "Romance", it's done so banally and lacking with surrealism that it's a wonder how The Pixies haven't murdered people nowadays in anger.

      Live music is a thing.
      It's the future.

To me, the record is mere advertisement to spread between people in order to actually get gigs established.
Of course... that was before covid.
So now music is purely a hobby now. The industry is dead to me now.
