Scientists have developed a new solar-powered system to convert saltwater into fresh drinking water which they say could help reduce dangerous the risk of waterborne diseases like cholera.
Via tests in rural communities, they showed that the process is more than 20% cheaper than traditional methods and can be deployed in rural locations around the globe.
Building on existing processes that convert saline groundwater to freshwater, the researchers from King’s College London, in collaboration with MIT and the Helmholtz Institute for Renewable Energy Systems, created a new system that produced consistent levels of water using solar power, and reported it in a paper published recently in Nature Water.

Are these Black folk literally converting solar power to electricity in order to desalinate water?
I hate scientists so fricking much
>electrodialysis
>new
It's not, the paper doesn't even claim so
What they've managed to achieve is higher efficiency
why dont they just do this?
Because such water wouldn't be consumable neither
why doe? (nta)
Because it's basically distilled water, unless you remineralize it to achieve decent osmolality it's basically poison
aaa ok
thanks anon
this isn;t true distilled water is great at removing all the shit in your body that accumulates due to industrial poisons.
whats actually poison is elemental water.
Ok moron, I'm not stopping you from drinking it you know
>remineralize
you say that like its difficult
It's not, it's just not cost-effective
riiiiiiiiiight
ok then why dont they just do this?
That wouldn't be as profitable and therefore it would be racist
Safe to drink
Distillation removes harmful contaminants, making it safe for consumption.
Lacks minerals
Distilled water is stripped of minerals like calcium and magnesium, which can affect taste and potentially nutrient intake.
Taste
Distilled water often tastes bland due to the absence of minerals.
If you're on a balanced diet, drinking distilled water shouldn't cause any problems. However, if you're concerned about mineral intake, you might consider other options like tap water or mineral water.
This dude was right
and you treated him like shit.
You're even more moronic than him, you quote https://www.healthline.com/health/can-you-drink-distilled-water by some negress journalist
Compare that to actual research paper https://aguaenmexico.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/WHO-HEALTH-RISKS-FROM-DRINKING-DEMINERALISED-WATER.pdf with over 200 citations
those don't contradict each other anon
No, they don't, but making decisions as if to indigest, or not, potential health hazard based on a healthline article is moronic
you're moronic and add a little salt watwr and it'll be fine
solar still is fricking common, unicef gave those to Black person in afirca
>solar still is fricking common, unicef gave those to Black person in afirca
I'm not denying that, it's just that you're mistaken of their purpose
They provide clean water for purposes other than human consumption and livestock watering
You know what else converts salt water to fresh water? Dirt.
id rather drink salt water than dirt water
You should really apologize. It is your only option.
thanks for this thread. it had the unintended side effect of convincing me that none of these people know anything of value. I'm out of here
>these people
who?
