No one here writes.
Quit your other hobbies and write more. Think more about the yearning of each character, if and how that changes through the story. Know the reason why they are the way they are. It will all come together.
i've finished my story 3 different times and every time after i'm done i read the whole thing from the beginning and get new ideas and want to do more changes
how do you write? What's the process
Are there actual professional or accomplished writers here? Not OP, just wondering.
I've written two novels and posted them online
nice, bro, how'd it go?
Pretty well I think. I didn't really have the energy or mental fortitude to interact with the publishing industry at all, and I didn't want to bother with all the self-advertisement I'd have to do if I wanted to self-publish, so I just put them on AO3 and was done with it. The first one is much more popular than the second due to it being set in a setting that saw a big burst of popularity while I was writing it, and the creator of the setting was nice and promoted my work here and there, but the second hasn't seen nearly as much interest, which is kind of what I expected.
The main benefit I've been seeing is that I'm able to write things much more quickly than I would otherwise. I've written one novel per year for the past two years, and I'm in the middle of a third right now, and being able to just publish them serially, do a little bit of editing, and then set them completely aside and move on to the next has been really good for me. I have about six or seven more stories I want to tell and this whole method has really made that feel like an attainable goal whereas before even just writing one novel felt completely impossible. Obviously it's not high literature or anything, they're thriller novels, but I find it satisfying and it keeps me writing actively.
nice anon, good on you
Thanks man. A lot of posts in the threads on here like writing general or whatever seem to be very heavily oriented towards getting published or self-publishing as the end goal of writing but I found that just having my stuff out there and having people reading it is satisfying enough for me. Plus, like I said, I'm writing a ton more than I would have otherwise if I hadn't made up my mind and just sat down and wrote the stories without caring whether I made money off them. Worked for me, but I could see that not being enough for people.
Yeah, it's great to have the tools to share your art immediately, no middlemen
I think that homosexual who wrote the book about crocodiles posts here, but he’s neither accomplished or much of a writer, so nvm jk lol
How long is it so far and how long have you been writing it?
>literally grew out of touch with the characters
Does this mean that you can't relate to them or did you forget what their characters are supposed to be? If it's the former, just keep writing. I don't see how relating to the character is required for writing.
Anons, I like writing short stories (like 5-10 pages)
What's the best place to publish them and get feedback?
maybe try submitting them to & by lit and they might show up in the next issue
https://lampbylit.com/magazine/submit/
What the frick is this site
newbie
it's IQfy's very own magazine
Is anyone even reading it? Looks like a bunch of spam
You're probably looking at "Articles", so go to "Issues" to see the actual magazine--there's a thread up about the latest issue right now
. Pretty much every submission to the editor is published, so the quality of writing varies a lot in each issue, but a lot of work is put into the design and some of the submissions.
And who the frick is the editor? Some random anon?
Yes. Same goes for every entrant, though you can use a name/pseudonym.
>Yes.
So it's fricking useless then
People submit and then talk about the issue after, and you're pretty much guaranteed to get in. It's all for fun and practice. I dunno what the frick you want. A more legitimate e-journal isn't going to include a critique of your work when they email you your rejection/acceptance, and I doubt they've got a forum to discuss the entries anonymously afterwards.
I'll add that the editor is good at what he does, so I don't think there's a need for him to doxx himself just to make this seem more legitimate.
Happened to Kafka
I've started three different stories and have gotten 1/4th of the way through before losing steam. What gives?
If F Gardner could write like a dozen books then there’s no reason you can’t
