Thanks GNOME!

>Once Wayland support was implemented, I received a bug report that the window was missing a titlebar and close buttons (called "window decorations") when running on GNOME. Most desktop environments will allow windows to supply their own decorations if they wish but will provide a default implementation on the server side as an alternative. GNOME, in their infinite wisdom, have decided that all clients must provide their own decorations, and if a client does not, they will simply be missing. I disagree with this decision; Factorio does not need to provide decorations on any other platform, nay, on any other desktop environment, but GNOME can (ab)use its popularity to force programs to conform to its idiosyncrasies or be left behind.

i've said it before and I'll say it again the vast majority of programs have no reason to implement wayland support since xwayland will work indefinitely and the differences should never affect single-windowed applications at all. mpv for example has wasted literally thousands of man-hours chasing down wayland bugs and after all this time it works the same (or in gnome's case, better) on xwayland than wayland. factorio is a single-window game that draws its own gui and everything from a raw gpu texture, there is literally and i mean literally nothing to be gained from implementing native wayland support.

      >My first self-appointed task after joining the team was to add Wayland support to the game. Wayland is a new display protocol that has been in development to replace the antiquated and insecure X11 system. Modern Linux distributions are beginning to switch to Wayland as default, so supporting it in Factorio is paramount.
This "person" is not a serious programmer and did not do this for technical reasons. He probably posts on IQfy and orange reddit and I've probably told him to log off until he can talk properly without buzzwords.

      >programs have no reason to implement wayland support since xwayland will work
that begs the question why use wayland at all when xorg works just fine and the applications are already supported

Thank you Gnome. As it should be. Gnome making superior decision and letting people below them adapt. That is alpha masculinity. Proud to be a Gnome user.

This post was entirely serious I use stock Fedora Gnome with a single extension (GSConnect) and it's the most productive I've ever been. Makes macos and i3 look like a toddlers toy.

I find gnome really pretty and comfy I just wish the developers weren't just a bunch of complete morons.
Seriously what's wrong with them? Is it all ebussy's shit? Can't quarter tile, removes icon tray, refuses to add thumbnails for two decades, have to manually patch mutter because of random frame drops (dont remember the name since I don't use gnome anymore, but its an Ubuntu-made patch, they just had to fricking copy paste it)
    idk man

epussy has been losing his mind ever since he came to IQfy and thought he'd be funny by trolling the board then got BTFO. he's ranted about IQfy ever since on his mastadon cancer. he truly believes that all of gnome's issues can be blamed on IQfy.

Gnome Is the new Apple. They're not making a windows manager, but a whole operating system and accompanying ecosystem, that happens to be based on Linux. Good or bad, this is the future, apparently...

Hardly. The problem is the GNOME devs don't use GNOME, they use macOS. So GNOME is a useless toy that has godawful usability even compared to macOS which makes you pay to quarter tile.

I haven't any issues with it. Its smooth, runs everything very quickly, and it makes a very good desktop and workspace. It had a rocky launch according to some, but on Tumbleweed, zero issues for me.
