The best thing Apple ever did was their implementation of the command key
>Better placement
>No awkward pinky stretch

>Universal copy/paste that always works
>Standardized keymappings across all apps

>inb4 it's just the super key. Just remap control and super key, moron
Wrong. It's implemented uniquely on macOS. It performs all of the functionality control usually provides, but it's functionally separate, freeing up control for terminals or emacs or any other program. It would be a Herculean effort to achieve this on Linux or *BSD because the entire ecosystem has been built on top of the use of control.

Exactly, Apple users have no control over their computers. Linux users, and even some Winbugs ones, do.

command - primary modifier key for macOS shortcuts
option - primary modifier key for entering alternative characters (e.g. opt + a = å)
control - primary modifier key for Unix programs in a terminal emulator

all keyboard shortcuts except cmd + tab are customizable out of the box in System Settings

      it's cool i guess
there are some weird inconsistencies like cmd+t for new tab and cmd+w to close tab, but to change tabs it's ctrl+tab and ctrl+shift+tab
i'm sure there's some thought process behind it but it's not very nice to use.

my pinky has zero trouble using ctrl and I switch between mac and linux every day

      cmd + q = quit app
      cmd + w = close window
      cmd + n = new window / new file (if using a file-based app)
cmd + (shift + ) + tab = switch to next (previous) app
cmd + (shift + ) + ` = switch to next (previous) window (personally I change this to option + tab for better consistency)
control + (shift + ) + tab = switch to next (previous) tab

      >yeah uh instead of one mod key for normal hot keys lets do two for no reason

best part is how dumb and inconsistent apple always is, command click in safari opens new tabs, but not in anything else, also doesnt do anything with programs on the dock either

      its all a fricking meme

      >command click in safari opens new tabs, but not in anything else

in most other contexts, cmd + click is for selecting multiple items, the way ctrl + click would in Windows

      >also doesnt do anything with programs on the dock either

it shows you the Dock item's filesystem location in a Finder window. stop making shit up salty winbabby.

It's the super key but it's used more like Control on Windows or Linux for the UI. In the CLI Control is still Control.

The thing they did well is to make the cmd key for the shortcuts, like cut, copy, paste, search, select all, etc.
It leaves the ctrl key (remapped to caps lock) available for the motions, C-n, C-p, C-a, C-e, etc.
Motions from Emacs are top tier, but cut copy paste with C-w, M-w, C-y is weird.

The control key was also a bad thing to use since those key combinations already had an existing purpose.

Some sort of switch just goes off in my head and I have no issues going between my OSX and Linux machines.

Though I recently put Linux on an old MacBook and I keep hitting the wrong modifier keys on that.

I do appreciate how VS Code shortcuts and Vim extension shortcuts don't interact on Mac. I end up having to do everything the Vim way on Linux.
