>The goal of Buddhism is to become enlightened and reach nirvana. Nirvana is believed to be attainable only with the elimination of all greed, hatred, and ignorance within a person. Nirvana signifies the end of the cycle of death and rebirth.
How can anyone take this shit seriously? None of that is possible by the way stop wasting your time.

I don't get it either. I think that Buddhism and Christianity are more similar than different in how your meant to actually live during your life.

Really compelling of an advocate for Buddhism to be disingenuous and put words in others' mouths. Says a lot.
Why aren't you at a monastery btw?
If you actually believe it, why aren't you with the sangha?
Why do you hold onto your material consooming impulses by owning a computer or phone? and your psychological impurity by coming on here?
You don't believe it, that's why.

I have made no claim that piety is a goal of mine, nor made any statements on whether I act piously or not.
          Why are you deflecting?
I repeat my previous question, if you really believe in Buddhism then why are you not at a monastery right now?

It makes sense if you operate under the false belief in reincarnation/rebirth, as the historical buddha did. It's the logical conclusion for the system.

      >life is shitty and i want out

      >there is a way out, blow out the ravenous hunger of desire
      >meditate under a tree making yourself miserable
      >i don't want to do this anymore
      >become free from desire
      >able to die for real
      >spend your last days doing whatever you want without fear of death or rebirth

Why? It’s not hard if you try, seems pretty intuitive to realise there is no self/I, and nothing to desire/avoid if you think on it for a while
it’s not even that amazing, just reality/truth

The only way to become enlightened is to realize that there is no such thing as enlightenment. There is nothing to learn, nothing to realize. «Tell them that there is nothing to understand» as U.G. Krishnamurti would say. One of the few who managed to see the whole fraud for what it is.

There is no such thing as reincarnation either. However the pursuit of purity is worthwhile in itself. Fighting against greed, hatred and ignorance is a noble pursuit regardless of whether of not enlightenment is a viable pursuit at all. Just like believing in God should not be the basis of avoiding sin and living a virtuous life. Becoming a better version of yourself is the right thing to do regardless of any system of thought, spirituality or ideology.

      >there is no rebirth
Oh yeah? There is no such thing as being born.

Not about the possibility but rather about making an effort to be a better human being by conquering the ego/illusion of the self through insight meditation for a good cause. Maybe even as far as gaining supernatural abilities to heal those who are suffering/dying. This is why i recommend the Mahayana way as it is closest to the heart of the buddha.

he has a point though, trying to conquer your ego is a ego act by itself, you don't slay the dragon you learn to recognize it and live with it
