The Raspberry Pi is good tech. Sometimes you just need a computer for whatever basic task, be it remote storage, ad blocking, automation etc. The new ones even function as full desktop computers (as long as your needs are modest).
The raspberry pi has tons of great guides that help newbies set up all sorts of projects. You might ask why it's so great about projects on the raspberry pi that could also be done on a cheap secondhand laptop, but that's kind of the point- the raspi is an educational device. If you learn how to do something on the raspi you can apply it elsewhere, and personally I learned a lot about networking from using my pi.

They're bad because of the non-standard boot process. You have to use special images purpose built for the Pi instead of regular ARM64 installers because the dumb piece of shit uses a closed source blob to boot off the GPU. Operating systems are slow to port to new models because of this absolute dumbfrickery. The engineers should just add a small bit of EEPROM to the board and ship them with Tiano Core UEFI builds to abstract that mess away from users. You can already do this with the SD card and an external hard drive but it's wasteful and not well integrated.
Raspberry Pi is fine if you want to host a local headless server. that's kinda it tho.
