those are some of the dumbest people around, and the implication that they're people capable of honestly and rationally discussing a topic with actual informed perspective is an insult. No, it's casting shade on the concept of expert panel discussion that got me doubting you.

The vast VAST majority of such is "experts" appearing to speak in 30 second soundbites before plugging a book of soundbites they stretched out to 250 pages that won't be relevant within 3 months. It's reality tv with political opinions instead of white trash fat kids doing beauty pageants.

      Correct take

Thomas Carlyle. Written almost two hundred years ago.
      >My friend, brag not yet of our American cousins! Their quantity of cotton, dollars, industry and resources, I believe to be almost unspeakable; but I can by no means worship the like of these. What great human soul, what great thought, what great noble thing that one could worship, or loyally admire, has yet been produced there? None: the American cousins have yet done none of these things.

      >America too will have to strain its energies, in quite other fashion than this; to crack its sinews, and all but break its heart, as the rest of us have had to do, in thousand-fold wrestle with the Pythons and mud-demons, before it can become a habitation for the gods. America's battle is yet to fight; and we, sorrowful though nothing doubting, will wish her strength for it. New Spiritual Pythons, plenty of them; enormous Megatherions, as ugly as were ever born of mud, loom huge and hideous out of the twilight Future on America; and she will have her own agony, and her own victory, but on other terms than she is yet quite aware of.

Anything associated with American Politics or the American style of Politics is utterly poison. It has become the cancer in the West despite all the hope and toil that went in to her earliest days.

The biggest problem with that is people don’t realize that chasing tradition at all costs is just as bad as chasing progress at all costs. There is a “mean” that should be desirable to most intelligent people but I’d wager that most of the right chases the specter of Plato instead of Aristotle.

Which brings me to another point, if the middle classes are considered to originate with middle age merchants, is that why both the right and left rail against them with only certain thinkers like Samuel Francis lending them ideological support or it really just based on a combination of envy and disgust depending what side you’re on?

Basically this, there is the reason the most 'traditionalist' American voices tend to be outsider Catholics/Orthodox who are on the fringe of society. If you are too much of a Native American, and are not from certain places in the South, your mind literally does not work in any traditional way.
