nah, valve is just private so they don't need to share their shit, but they're worth about 8-10 billion dollars, and that's just an estimate that may supposedly be an understatement

    >any major corporation: "Well ackhtually, you can't create your own content without paying me the well deserved royalties, peasant"

    >Valve: "here's our software, do whatever the frick you want"
    >"yes, you can also modify our groundbreaking, genre re-defining videogames"

What company asks for royalties to make mods?

They’re the good guys because they’re a private corporation and therefore not beholden to the myopic quarterly stockholder valuation cycle. They can do things that built up greater value but at a slower pace, which is why their products are so much better and people actually like them.

Valve isn't the same company we knew, as someone who's grown up with them since as early as 6 years old, but the things they do in linux, accompanied by the hardware they create and how whatever software advancements they make for the sake of their own device is all released for everyone, definitely gives the same general idea as AMD, development should be shared, not withheld for patents or whatever.

Wine is a GPL project. Valve is legally required to share their additions to wine.

Cutting away at Microsoft's cross-market spread improves software overall.

Valve is just grabbing the low hanging fruit for maintaining their profitability.
They're using Wine because it already exists and they're contributing back because they are obligated to by the license.
Their behavior in regards to VR is a pretty decent demonstration as to how squirrely they can be about their IP when they are working in an area where their hands aren't bound by a license.
The best thing that you can say about this is that they don't go significantly out of their way to implement bad ideas if a good idea exists that would require less effort, which is something that can't be said for the majority of shareholder and consultancy driven corporations who absolutely will cut off their own nose to spite their face.

They'll maintain Linux shit but they won't maintain their own video games. I mean, Counter-Strike 2 is having bot issues now too, they're jeopardizing their own infinite money glitch. What the hell is up with Valve?

Supporting Linux is why the bot problem is the way it is

I mean true, but weirdly the minority of bots is cheater bots, yet you're most familiar with them (about 1,000 total). There are thousands of Steam accounts running cracked copies of the Linux build text only in order to get crate drops to sell for sweet, sweet refined metal.
