Looks based to be honest.
The M1 macbook air is already pretty worth the money compared to x86 intel garbage.
It's kinda sad to live in a world were Apple is now the de facto go to when you look at something affordable who performs great.
I am scared about fanless design, like the price point and color. But dunno if m2 is enough. All I do is web stuff, python and starting with unity gamedev which my mbpro gets hot, or stream on my 4k monitor.
Which Gen MBP? The apple silicon are basically mobile processors. They only really heat up if you're doing intense work, otherwise they warm up like a phone.
ARM Macs don't heat up like intelshit. Right now I'm posting in my M1 Air, it's dead cold, while my work provided i7 MBP is overheating with only Slack and mail.app open.
I have a M1Pro MBP and I use some heavy duty photoshop. The fans haven’t kicked up a single time since it released. I also frequently let it sink into my bed since it’s very comfy to use as there is no heat generated and the battery life is 13-16 hours. The thing pulls like 7-14Wh.
the notch is a huge turnoff for me
There is no way to make a convincing argument, but especially in dark mode I haven’t noticed it at all.
how much better than 14inch M1Pro is this meant to be? for a 512gb, 16gb m2 air is 50 quid less than basemodel 14inch m1pro.
i could just get the 256gb, 8gb ram m2 air and live with it.
Afaik no one at apfel was assigned to make linux kernel support it. Literally 0 line of code. It is no more useful to tech-litterate people than those cheap "more powerful" chinese rasperry clones.
is base model gonna be 12GB ram now? or 8/16/24
Kinda unfortunate that they're bumping ram, they're admitting defeat to software. If I run my 16GB M1 Macbook Air long enough it starts swapping to disk, a lot of it is because of memory leaks
Thoughts? I'd have one, but it's getting to the point where shills are actually making the product less attractive, I'll drop my cash on a Dell XPS next time.
Still only two ports on the Air and MBP.
Ram pricing is mildly obnoxious.
SSD prices are still majorly obnoxious
The touchbar is still there.
No SD card slot.
Other than that, looks fine. The $1200 base model is still more computer than most people need.
People either by absolute bottom tier trash to check emails, gaming laptops if they're gamers, or macbooks for everyone else. There's pretty much no in between.
Everyone has shit like lenovo yogas and $1200 HP laptops but this is IQfy so everything that isn't the newest macbook or a linux stinkpad is shit (the top 2 choices for a sexless man)
Design looks great, it's just a tiny all aluminum fanless computer. Magsafe is a great addition since it pretty much frees up a USB C port when you're charging so you have 2 free instead of just 1 like the M1 air. M2 seems alright, especially if they're using the same process as before.
Price is just way too high though for the other specs. 8GB of RAM and 256GB base storage is way too low for $1199 it starts at. If they drop the price sometime later like they did when the air got its last redesign back down to $999 then that'd be okay but right now it's too pricey.
It's legitimately more than what 99% of their customers need though, so I wonder what they'll do for the M2 Pro and M2 Max Macbook Pros to get people to buy those over this.
Base model only has 8 GPU cores while the 10 GPU cores are on the updated storage models, and for whatever reason base model gets a single usb c port charger while the bumped up GPU core model gets the dual usb c port charger
>Up to 2TB SSD >Up to 24GB RAM
must be BTO with a hefty premium or you're fricked >Liquid Retina Display
Retina LCD displays have been used since 2012 MBP >8K video playback
Why? Finding 4K video is tough enough, anything higher is impossible >1 billion colours
32-bit colour has been around for decades >MagSafe
same shit from 2006, different port
i think i will wait for them to add proper hardware to use inside the notch
60hz
dealbreaker honestly. i wouldve bought otherwise
Why do you need more? But seriously, I used 60Hz IPS monitor for the past 10 years.
Dealbreaker for me is no av1 HW decode support
because its 2022 and a thousand dollar laptop should be fully featured
it doesnt matter that 60hz is good enough, its also objectively not perfect
x86 shills on suicide watch
Finally a 1080p camera in 2022 lmao.
>They's using webcams to watch us jerk off!
>OMG they don't even have 4k webcams!
I mean, make up your fricking autistic minds already.
>they're the same person
meds
no this is patrick
kek

Looks good but it's too expensive.
I am scared about fanless design, like the price point and color. But dunno if m2 is enough. All I do is web stuff, python and starting with unity gamedev which my mbpro gets hot, or stream on my 4k monitor.

2017 the 4port one
Yeah I know but still, I am like cautious. Getting a 1-2k laptop is not a small thing
ARM Macs don't heat up like intelshit. Right now I'm posting in my M1 Air, it's dead cold, while my work provided i7 MBP is overheating with only Slack and mail.app open.
>unity gamedev
obviously you shouldn't get fanless if you plan to do manchild shit

>fanless design
Have you used a M1? it doesn't need it at all
M1 literally does not need fans
Afaik no one at apfel was assigned to make linux kernel support it. Literally 0 line of code. It is no more useful to tech-litterate people than those cheap "more powerful" chinese rasperry clones.
Intel and AMD shills utterly shit on, nothing beats the performance/price/power consumption ratios.
>support up to 1 external 6k monitor
Into the trash it goes. Is it that much difficult to get 2 external monitors? M2 pro when?
is base model gonna be 12GB ram now? or 8/16/24

meanwhile on windows 10, with a trillion chrome tabs open and 8 days uptime
yeah, other than WSL2 windows is pretty good with memory in my experience
>meanwhile on windows 10, with a trillion chrome tabs open and 8 days uptime
zero battery life, though
~6 hours
i can set the tdp limit to 5 watt and have it run forever
It's 8GB/256GB base models according to their store.
Thoughts? I'd have one, but it's getting to the point where shills are actually making the product less attractive, I'll drop my cash on a Dell XPS next time.
it will costs 1500 EURO (1600USD) where Im from. Thats to much.
Still only two ports on the Air and MBP.

>$1200
>60hz display
>no hdmi 2.1
>8 GB ram
>256 GB storage
Lmao, applel devices become less cost-effective every single iteration.
Who gives a frick about HDMI on a laptop? It’s all thunderbolt over USB type C now grandpa.
do american normalgays really use macshits? for what purpose
Women use them to be seen with them. I've never seen a socially normal man with an apple laptop.

will grab one
cool, now show me it running free and open source software. oh wait...
One of the best open source package managers out there is from MacOs. Brew.
the notch is a huge turnoff for me
Base model only has 8 GPU cores while the 10 GPU cores are on the updated storage models, and for whatever reason base model gets a single usb c port charger while the bumped up GPU core model gets the dual usb c port charger
>four speaker sound system
>shows icon of 4 speakers, just so you know what 4 speakers looks like
bravo tim apple
Why can't anyone make a laptop at least this slim?
>8k
This is just moronic
If the new iphones have that 48MP camera they'll be shooting 8k HEVC video so that's probably why they're mentioning that
>Up to 2TB SSD

Phones can record in 4k and 8k now
>Finding 4K video is tough enough, anything higher is impossible
... I made a 4k meme last week, you live under a rock
You need to make 8K hardware for 8K video to happen, the sooner the better.
That means it's 10 bit, which is cool.
>no white bezel
pass
bring back the blackbooks and maybe I'll think about it
>When the boss tells you to make a slick graphic for marketing but the product doesn't have enough impressive features.
1500€ for 8/256 base model not worth, at 16/512 its 1950 not including the fast charger - to expensive compared to 900€ m1 air
How much is it.
I'll be needing a new laptop in about 6 months for work so thinking of getting it.
$1199 for 8GB/256GB base model
CPU is 18% better than M1, and GPU 40% better than M1 (for the 10 GPU core model, base model is 8 GPU cores)
so glad magsafe is back on the menu
>Magic Keyboard
what's magic about it?
Are they going to release a new mac mini in the next week?
Who do I watch that won't turn me into a troony?
Let me guess without watching the ad, it only has a single usb-c port for the entire computer and the 24gb upgrade costs 500€ over the base 8gb.
>13" Pro gets rid of the notch
>Air adds the notch
What the frick?
>no fans
How will wingays and linuxfats cope?
I build computers with AMD Threadripper, 64gb of ram and still cheaper that two Macbooks or one Studio
Can you install Xcode though
