lol it frequently appears in the news with the phrase インタネットの掲示板で... and countless people have made thousands of dollars per month by simply scraping 5ch and putting them into まとめ sites. this had the side effect of lowering site quality since it encouraged 自作自演 (samegayging) by these sites in order to produce clickbait and ad revenue. lastly, the site has always been popular in the japanese net for kids posting crimes they're about to commit (犯行予告) and making hate threads about random products, actors, polticians, etc. lastly, when hiroyuki was still in control of 5ch (formerly 2ch) he was making about $2M/year from it
