I got it because chinkmoot banned my IP range from imageposting (no it wasn't something I did). It's been relatively nice honestly, aside from a few bullshit bans. Overall I feel like mods are less likely to ban you, or more likely to give you a warning, if you have a pass. Giving the benefit of the doubt you could say they do it because you're more likely to be a genuine poster rather than an IP hopping shitposter or spammer, if you wanna be more cynical you could say they do it because you're a paying customer and they don't wanna lose you.

You can't phone post on cellular because you can just shuffle your connection to evade a ban. You can do this with Wi-Fi but it's more effort than just going into airplane mode and back out.
I can phone post on cell data but occasionally I will see a ban that says "VPN/Proxy" which obviously isn't right because it's a cell IP.
