what's the issue with the windows registry? hard mode: you can't bring up stuff that hasn't been an issue since 2009

          Anonymous

it's monolithic, lots of settings for lots of separate things dumped into one system
it's over-complicated and needs its own special system to view and manipulate, unlike text dotfiles
it doesn't accomplish anything you can't do with dotfiles

basically the issue isn't that it does what it does badly, the issue is that the idea its based on is a bad one. You can have a competent implementation of a stupid and unnecessary idea, and that's what both dconf and the registry are.

pretty sure kde settings are still all text files. fix the setting then report a bug, or verify the existing bug. kde has a config migration feature that should prevent this but if it's really caused by bad config then someone didn't know or forgot to write the migration rule

      >I'm considering switching to some other tiling wm as long as I can rely on x11 support.
I thought the same thing. In theory, it's nice to have a stable environment you built yourself that's resistant to these big sweeping moron DE updates that break everything (especially since there doesn't seem to be a single Linux DE that doesn't eventually go to complete garbage). My old dwm/suckless config still works exactly the same as when I set it up years ago, and is rock-solid stable.

In practice, though, I've grown too used to the niceties of KDE and the workflow I've built for myself. It would take way too long to half-assedly replicate it in some autism wm. I even messed around with a few standalone floating WMs recently, and they were just way too primitive (in my opinion). It really is just such a god damn shame that the KDE devs nuked Plasma *just* as it had become stable and pleasant to use.

I didn't expect kde6 to be THIS buggy. If they said it was gonna break a lot of shit and to reset your system basically. I don't mind some broken shit but the amount of shit they broke was far worse then just "oh yeah this is gonna crash". The entire system was unstable and unusable. Only until 6.0.2 has any of it become usable.
