>Can't change the fricking settings because it crashes
We need a solution to the KDE problem.
It exists. It's called themed gnome.
that'd be a joy to use a DE that decided to copy the windows registry for settings. I sure had fun fricking around with that when I tried gnome 3 and plugins randomly broke
>DE that decided to copy the windows registry for settings
i hate footBlack folk so much it's unreal
what's the issue with the windows registry? hard mode: you can't bring up stuff that hasn't been an issue since 2009
it's monolithic, lots of settings for lots of separate things dumped into one system
it's over-complicated and needs its own special system to view and manipulate, unlike text dotfiles
it doesn't accomplish anything you can't do with dotfiles
basically the issue isn't that it does what it does badly, the issue is that the idea its based on is a bad one. You can have a competent implementation of a stupid and unnecessary idea, and that's what both dconf and the registry are.
Or you could use a real operating system, like Windows.
You could also kys
Ah yes, Windows famously never has any issues and you can easily contact developers to report bugs, sure.
pretty sure kde settings are still all text files. fix the setting then report a bug, or verify the existing bug. kde has a config migration feature that should prevent this but if it's really caused by bad config then someone didn't know or forgot to write the migration rule
>We need a solution to the KDE problem.
it's your fault for using meme DE. GNOME is the default everywhere for a reason.
Linux desktop has 1% market share also for a reason.
I like 6.
mind sharing your terminal colorscheme?
>get new
>paperterial
>enable blur
I'm a straight man that finds curvy things sexy. I can't help it.
Nasty looking titlebar
Disgusting rounded corners everywhere
I like the titlebar.
rounded corners are here to stay
>that fricking hideous double title bar taking up page real state
linux fricking lost
Falkon is an old browser. Here's firefox, if that's what you want to see, you sick pervert.
Impressive, very nice. Now let's see those generic X icon programs, anon.
>double title bar
But there is only one titlebar.
CSDs are absolutely disgusting btw, as well as being moronic and incorrect. The titlebar is the domain of the window manager, not the application running in said window.
>floating menu bar
disgusting
I like it. Not all flavors of ice cream are for you, Jamal.
>i like shit, sorry you dont like shit
fixed it for you gay
how do you like the global menu bar?
I would hang myself if I ever thought of "proudly" displaying a marker that said "GNU/Linux" on my desktop
you are human garbage
this
looks awesome
I really like how this looks, but I want good tiling by default.
delete the old theme directory or any plasma widgets you have
I never enable those. Not a fan of them, but you do you.
is for:
>vscode in light mode
I'm not a fan of darkies.
>he doesn't use light mode
NGMI zoomer.
>Hounshould use this editor in dark mode even you use other editors in light mode
>Becuz its bybdefault dark
Kys
Light mode best. Go to sleep when sun sets.
Why even use VSCode when you can use VSCodium?
Works for me! Skill issue
come back, anon. you don't need anything else, it's just fomo
Someone please explain to me why every single fricking desktop on linux is absolutely committed to having as much padding and wasted space as possible
I'm so fricking tired of this shit. GTK is genuinely disgusting to look at
Look at this dogshit
almost half of my fricking desktop to show a 4 item list
Also it's literally impossible to screenshot GTK dialogs now (I'm on xorg) because they frick off the second they lose focus. which I guess happens when you try and time a screenshot with maim or scrot.
I had to screen-record with obs then take a screenshot what a joke
>Someone please explain to me why every single fricking desktop on linux is absolutely committed to having as much padding and wasted space as possible
You can thank the footgays for forcing this onto everyone like they do with all of their other garbage, everybody already b***hed about their CSD headerbar bullshit years ago.

Downgrade back to plasma 5.
yeah but it's not sustainable unless someone forks plasma 5 to be it's own set of packages
as of right now on arch you move from a nice and stable 5 to a fricking broken 6 through a regular -Syu
Don't update, use flatpaks and appimages/ snaps as a temporary fix.
>Don't update, use flatpaks and appimages/ snaps as a temporary fix.
the absolute state of the linux desktop in 2024
>flatpaks
>still have to do a bunch of hacky bullshit just to get them to use the system theme due to muh sandboxing
>breaks browser extensions that rely on native messaging hosts (like plasma's browser integration)
>permissions on many packages are totally broken and applications will often silently fail
>sandbox is still completely useless
>appimages
>need to run a separate application to integrate them with your desktop and get icons
>snaps
>slow as frick and the snap store has constant malware issues
All garbage.
I doesn't have to be sustainable, you only have to do it for a month or so.
>you only have to do it for a month or so.
buddy plasma 5 took 3 years from launch to be usable
where do you think the krash meme comes from
>where do you think the krash meme comes from
Numpties that use binary distro's - you're not a binary distro using numpty are you?
You think that's bad? KDE 4 took until KDE 5 to be stable.
Plasma 6 just works. But I use AMD+Wayland, for me at least X11 is very buggy on it.
t. openSUSE Tumbleweed GOD
It's called plasma 5, just use that till version 6.2
I literally have had 0 problems may be cuz I'm using the defaults with a few keyboard shortcuts tho
Ahahaha, do freetards really? Do they really put up with this?
if you are using nvidia try these fixes
https://github.com/ventureoo/nvidia-tweaks
These in particular may be helpful.
>/etc/environment
# Can break some native games
SDL_VIDEODRIVER=wayland
XDG_SESSION_TYPE=wayland
QT_QPA_PLATFORM="wayland;xcb"
# For shared clipboard with Xwayland apps
MOZ_DBUS_REMOTE=1
# Not needed after Firefox 121+
MOZ_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1
GBM_BACKEND=nvidia-drm
WLR_NO_HARDWARE_CURSORS=1
KITTY_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1
_JAVA_AWT_WM_NONREPARENTING=1
Don't forget to patch drivers too every driver update, including for flatpaks.
https://github.com/keylase/nvidia-patch
the solution is i3, chud.
>burns in your display, permanently ruining your screen
no ty
huh?
>update artix to kde6 this morning
>reboot, black screen
>tty broken
>reboot, only have one monitor plugged in
>sddm doesn't start on boot, manually start
>wayland defaults fricking everything up
>all shortcut, window and panel settings fricked up
>plasma eternally broken with no default XDG_RUNTIME_DIR
>wireplumber eternally broken after fixing plasma
>say frick it, boot second drive
>btrfs revert snapshot
>everything is ok
Guess I'll just never update. I'm considering switching to some other tiling wm as long as I can rely on x11 support.
I meant pipewire not plasma, I had to run a bunch of plasma commands too just to get shutdown menus working again.
It's a fricking mess for something that was supposed to be an easy update.
>I'm considering switching to some other tiling wm as long as I can rely on x11 support.
I thought the same thing. In theory, it's nice to have a stable environment you built yourself that's resistant to these big sweeping moron DE updates that break everything (especially since there doesn't seem to be a single Linux DE that doesn't eventually go to complete garbage). My old dwm/suckless config still works exactly the same as when I set it up years ago, and is rock-solid stable.
In practice, though, I've grown too used to the niceties of KDE and the workflow I've built for myself. It would take way too long to half-assedly replicate it in some autism wm. I even messed around with a few standalone floating WMs recently, and they were just way too primitive (in my opinion). It really is just such a god damn shame that the KDE devs nuked Plasma *just* as it had become stable and pleasant to use.
>Login into tty
>rm your kde config
>start kde with fresh new settings
problem solved
I have never had a problem wih Cinnamon+Ubuntu combo in the 15 years since I've swapped to Linux.
I have no idea why Cinnamon is not the default option of choice for anyone who wants the Windows design while being on Linux. It just works with zero configuration and can be customized and themed nicely.
anon, i studied your screenshot and i have concluded that you are a moron
I've studied your post and concluded you're a Black person.
anon, the intelligent (non-Black personish) reply would be asking what makes you a moron. i'm happy meet curiosity with an explanation of my case
I didn't ask because I don't give a shit what you think though. Nor does anyone else.
>I don't give a shit what you think though
i'm sure you don't. i'm sure your reply ISN'T impotent Black person rage in the face of an insult to you pretending to not care. again, i'm sure it isn't
>someone anonymous on the internet not caring what you have to say or asking why you have an opinion causes this much seethe and replying
You may want to get off the internet for a while my guy
anon, why are you still replying? i promise you my replies were out of amusement, don't reply if i'm wrong
Works on my machine.
> another thread about how KDE 6 is broken
Go to 5 and stay there. You c**ts irritate me. Every day. Kde kde kde. Wayland sucks. Kde. Krashes.
Trigger itchy updooters who can't wait a year for an LTS deserve that and more.
they don't have a choice. another wave of newhomosexual morons are facing the consequences of the trendy ARCH LOONIX ARCH LUUNIX TROONI EUNUCHS meme
werks for me
t. arch troon
yeah yeah grandpa, we know your GNOME 2 desktop on your slackware machine is rock-solid stable, go back to the nursing home
I didn't expect kde6 to be THIS buggy. If they said it was gonna break a lot of shit and to reset your system basically. I don't mind some broken shit but the amount of shit they broke was far worse then just "oh yeah this is gonna crash". The entire system was unstable and unusable. Only until 6.0.2 has any of it become usable.
You are gonna have to clear out the themes and user folder of your old shit. The config files are fricking everything up and incompatible plasma themes/plasmoids/cursors and so on. I had a cursor that everytime I dragged an image it would crash dolphin.
:^)

Thread #4 of archbabies that couldn't update a WM without trashing their system
Plasma 6 just werks on my machine. Well, except for changes to my volume settings resetting themselves. And wl_output randomly changing order on my two displays which never happened on Plasma 5.
shift+alt+F3 or something and then login non-graphical as root. delete/move your config files for kde and then try to login.
