Valve seems like the company that does this the least. Steam sucks but their support for gaming on Linux has been incredible. I say this as someone who doesn't play non-free games and just uses Linux "normally."
There's plenty of DRMless games on Steam where you can just go the game files, copy the executable, and do whatever you want with it.
Steam doesn't encourage game devs to go one way or another, but it definitely doesn't force anybody to do anything either.

Getting linux booting is another story because microsoft(or qcom not sure) extended acpi in an undocumented way to implement arm specific shit like big.little and various power management options so linux still needs a device tree because acpi on linux always was a total trashfire.
