Vision Pro is the modern day Apple Newton. Tim Cook will be out of the job soon just like John Sculley was canned after the Newton disaster.

>are making me sad
Why are apple drones like this? Why do they identify with the brand.
Apple did an excellent job during the years in creating a cult.
>it's still 2-3k
too expensive to be sad.
They basically made a meme device for youtubers to hype for two weeks and the youtubers all said it was ass and not ready
It's a dev kit.
REAL Apple vision comes in 25-26. Cheaply and with a killer app
>with a killer app
like what?
Apple Porn
right
I'm not interested in homosexuality
The one thing I can think of that'll actually force this to become a thing you're not allowed to not have is putting a bunch of virtual signage, bulletin boards, ads, characters, tour groups, ads, and whatever else all over the real world and then hype the shit out of it. Hype it like Twitter was being hyped in 2007 where you literally could not hear, watch, or read a news story without it mentioning something on Twitter.
They'll also need more productivity applications although in this case that's easy: just let the damn thing run MacOS desktop applications. It costs enough as it is.
People will also want games, so Apple is going to have to swallow its pride and make some controllers or allow controllers to be made.
Also, whatever applications this offers or equivalents, need to be available or accessible on Horizon OS. ANY multiplayer VR/AR services MUST be available to Horizon OS users. This is important because access to the killer app you want to suck everyone into must be available at any price point.
Then people will start buying these things because they don't want to feel left out or because they think that they might run into a need for some information that is only visible when you put the headset on.
Then you just need some official government functions or payment schemes or something with material importance to be available exclusively through VR/AR, and you've done it! An optional piece of technology is optional no more. Oh, sure, the AR stuff will still be accessible through cell phones, but anyone using a phone to do that will just look stupid.
(me)
By the way, if apple wants any chance in succeeding in pushing this, they'll need Meta to get off their asses and implement working hand tracking gesture controls in all their headsets.
Or we'll need another virus scare that triggers lockdowns, and people have to meet only in VR again, which is what Meta was banking on continuing in perpetuity when it rebranded.
Woke Consumerism. I know you want to fit in here, but if you're going to argue their religious importance anywhere else, use an accurately descriptive name for the religion.
troonyism
Is sufficiently encapsulated by the term "woke". Trust me, people will understand.
troonyism is more direct.
Personally I dislike using gestures. I'd rather have a clicker or something in my hand.
My thoughts were that the nature of the killer app I'm imagining sorta requires people to be wearing this outside while doing other stuff, with the pretense of not having to carry a phone or anything else around.
Yes, I get that a Magic Mouse with its touch sensitive surface will probably work better in any case (except for when you're trying to use it while driving), the thing is, having to carry that or a phone around is going to draw comments like "well if I have to carry a phone around anyway what is the point of this?"
This is after all, speculation about how they can take this from "frivolous luxury" to "you're not allowed to not have it".
I'm envisioning something along the lines of the wii nunchuck form factor. I'd like a peripheral I can just hold so I don't have to be in public gesticulating. It would be nice to not worry if my hands are visible to the headset. Buttons and stick, easy peasy.
My main use case would be productivity and using the thing as a display. To that end, something that gives me more control than what I can get with my hands and the gestures they've come up with would be greatly appreciated.
It seems like it would be useful to transfix something by pressing a button and focusing on something else. I wonder what kinds of multitasking interfaces they can eventually come up with.
So what you're saying is that those sold to Black folk before the 25th were all dev kits? Absolute state of consoomers.
>Meta post losses of $3.8 billion
>Apple Vision doesnt even sell half a million units
sorry coomers, VR is deader than dead now. its over.
Vision Pro is barely VR.
Even The Quest can do more and supports 1000% more software.
We need x86 for good VR, all this ARMshit just doesn't have the raw horsepower it needs for anything more than nintendo64 graphics.
7840u would AT LEAST give us GTA V graphics.
It's not a hardware issue, it's an Apple issue.
Bullshit. ARM is just a chinese knockoff of x86.
ARM was created by the British.
So it's anglo garbage instead of murica garbage
ARM created it, but Apple put a good chunk of money on it because they wanted it for the Newton.
People need to give up on standalone and embrace it like a special monitor for your PC. Sim guys have deep pockets, most of them have multiple headsets already, stop trying to appeal to homosexuals who want to impress other homosexuals.
>x86
>arm
>graphics
this is who calls your code bad
ARM is still using 128-bit SIMD in 2024. I'm not even joking, look it up.
Meanwhile the first 256-bit SIMD x86 CPU came out like what in 2010?
He's probably a Rust troony.
anon most VR uses an entire fricking desktop and it's still shit. VR goggles are just not a good idea
While I hope that this is the case, I remember very vividly every clowning airpods when the first came out. Now they are by far the most common headphones you see in public and many companies now have their own wireless earbuds. While the memory isn't as deeply entrenched since it was longer ago, I believe that people thought that the iPad was a bit goofy on its release?
Apple has shown the ability time and time again to invent new categories that become staples. I hope its not the case with VR as I don't want to be talking to a friend who's simultaneously checking his parlay and scrolling tictok in his vision pro, but I wouldn't be surprised to see the gen 2 start to show some staying power...
Tbf the airpods were competitively priced for a Bluetooth headset, and released at the same time they removed the headphone jack (forcing you to use Bluetooth)
While also having the best software compatibility for use on an iPhone by gimping other headsets intentionally
Plus VR is way less interesting to normies than listening to music/having a wireless microphone
Totally agree that the AirPods made way more sense at the time for all the reasons you give.
Vision Pro is way less likely to have an AirPods style rise, but its still possible, and the social consequences will be dramatically worse than the AirPods.
We'll know for sure based on the presence/absence of a "Vision Air" with a tolerable price point over the next few years.
Airpods are the last great Apple product. Fricking earphones.
even then, they sound shit and dont even support lossless lol
they're bluetooth. most of the time when I'm listening to music in the fricking subway or walking down a street fidelity is not a huge factor, nevermind the variable quality of the streaming services most use. Airpods are a great product, no question. They are overpriced.
True, I wonder how apple plans on trimming the form factor down to make it tolerable for long use, I think cutting the price and size is essential if they want more adoption
>Fewer cameras (Meta doesn't need that many)
>phone CPU instead of desktop
>drop the outside display
>plastic casing
Does this thing really need LiDAR?
Also adding/improving specialized processing units that can do the AR/VR shit without as much power draw.
>specialized processing units that can do the AR/VR shit without as much power draw.
Then explain why it's battery life is shit.
The R1 chip that handles it is a M2 variant.
Try to explain why you'd need that much processing power.
Seems like poor optimization, too much sensor data and overengineering
100% over-engineered, you don't need LiDAR and two processors, you can get depth information with cameras alone.
Frick off geohot
Airpods are still gay
Over ear noise cancelling headphones are better for travel. Bose QC 45
Around the ear wired sport earbuds are better for running and intense fitness so they don't fall out and if they kind of do they don't get lost
I like my galaxy buds 2 for zoom meetings so I look cool.
Cost too much, had too many downsides and didn't solve any problems people had.
its a cool idea but we had the same VR boom and bust in the 90s for the exact same reason.
you can't even use it as a party trick more than once because whenever VR is brought to a party everyone tries it for 15 minutes and then never wants to use it again because... well, it's a party and it's the least social thing imaginable.
proper AR glasses that simply overlaid information on, well, regular glasses probably would've been the way to go.
KISS. no fancy graphics, just flat images with no gradients and have it function for notifications, GPS, etc like a HUD.
>I financed a little over $3,900 for the 256GB version of the headset.
>A day or so ago, I made a mistake that I’m sure many early adopters are familiar with: I looked up how much it’s been selling for on eBay.
>On Wednesday, a 1TB Vision Pro, complete with all the included gear, Apple’s fluffy $200 travel case, $500 AppleCare Plus, and claimed to have been “worn maybe about an hour” sold for $3,200 after 21 bids. Brand new, that combination is $5,007.03 on Apple’s site
iToddlers BTFO!!!
Wait, so the iToddler is angry because someone got the device cheaper than buying in from Apple???
>I financed
HAHAHAHAHAAH
To be fair Apple does give you interest free financing for 12 months on anything you buy from them.
>free
When the products are that overpriced no shit they'll pretend they're being your friend for buying.
>pay $2,000 more than the worth of the actual product, you don't have to pay interest though!
economy peaked in 2000. iphone was a blip that held up the entire internet that needed another gimmick scam after wall street realized the internet really was a sinkhole. AI is just another money grab gimmick to prop up data centers and hardware companies. Watch gayMAN stocks implode after the upcoming automobile industry second crash that makes 2007 auto bailouts look babby tier.
>The verge
Aren't they basically just an Apple marketing wing nowadays?
Most of the tech sites support Apple because Apple is the symbol of woke troonyism and they cant let the company fail.
Same thing happens with virtually every new product.
As much as I'd like to say this clown ass device won't ever get popular, it will get very popular with its third iteration or so.
>new product from the heckin' wholesome multitrillion corporation is underperforming, that makes me sad!
Just kill all Americans already
Anything that gets Tim Cook fired would be good. You'd think the car project alone would do it.
Cook's main skillset and strength is the supply china side of things. With likely sanctions problems with China this will damage that greatly for Apple. It's entirely possible that one day in the near future the manufacture of Apple devices in China will be outright banned.
Nothing is getting Cook fired. Apple's market cap was $300 billion when he took over for Jobs. It now bounces around in the $2.6 trillion to $3 trillion range.
>But inflation!
Between when he took over in 2011 and now, that $300 billion market cap would be $416 billion, far short of the trillions the company is now worth. He can have a long string of failure and no one will care as long as he's still giving investors this rate of return.
Pretty sure apple would have have gotten the same gains without that pajeet on top. There is a lot of apple die hard fans that buy their overpriced garbage. the only good thing that came out of apple is their unified RAM VRAM high end pcs at a whooping 7k to 10k. still cheaper than getting 5 4090.
Apple has always been a cult but when Jobs was pushed out by Sculley, the company went to shit, so we already have an example of how Apple can go bad and they don't just magically get money for being a cult.
I could tell this turd wasn't going to sell outside of the early adopter Apple whales. It doesn't do anything remarkable.
The Newton was arguably doomed to fail, despite having some interesting ideas. The Vision Pro was not doomed, it was killed. Apple made a conscious decision to release a VR/AR headset that's completely fricking useless because they want to maintain an image, that image being a limp wristed idiot's idea of maturity and sophistication.
Teh Apple ignorance on IQfy is beyond belief.
Hly shit it's real, my sides, eat shit Itoddler, i'm basically not gonna by ur shit headset kek, lmfao even
iTODDLERS BTFO
I hope not. For all of Tim Cook's problems, at least he's not a head bobbing yes-man pajeet.
The promo shot with the black slopehead killed it.
i thought she was cute
It looks like someone very poorly cropped her hair and put a black background behind her.
sorry
not Apple's fault
honestly this promo image destroyed the whole product, she looked so utterly stupid in it and has a weird shaped head
look how weird this shit looks.... $4000
dude who signed off on this was fired after 36 years working at apple hahahahahaha
look if i see a Black person wearing your headset i am not gonna buy it. Since apples shows Black folk wearing them, let the Black folk buy tthem
I liked these ads because they made me imagine how the product is some kind of device that's trying to stimulate and educate primal hominids into becoming fully human, or as a kid of tool for the same hominids. For instance it works in fast food or a warehouse but the video the vision displays is about some jungle where the chimp is collecting nuts and berries or escaping predators (machinery IRL).
It would be hilarious if the model's skin tone would go lighter with every new version of the AVP, kinda like the human evolutionary cycle.
Black person
Are apps really not allowed to access the camera, even if the user wants to give them permission?
That seems insane. How do you even do anything with it as a dev?
>How do you even do anything with it as a dev?
you dont
Why would anyone want this over nreal air style devices.
Watch a movie on a plane or some shit, otherwise what the frick is the point of having some huge shit on your head.
Can you play Pokémon Go on this thing?
(Me)
Nope.
My MessagePads were cooler
The idea itself is not bad, but execution is moronic, should been ar glasses or small vr helmet.
oof
i want to pick one up but it requires an extensive apple ecosystem to make use of
Why is everything VR related a flop?
Because you still cant walk in VR.
This thing is just uncomfortable to wear for long periods. Why the hell would someone want to keep their arms moving in the air instead of resting on something when working?
There's a reason nobody gives a frick about touchscreen monitors except in very few occasions
Also, it's a standalone device with no apps and no video input. coomers can't use it, gamers can't use it, and nobody is going to use it to work and have their productivity cut in half. It's just a gimmick that is cool for a couple of minutes, maybe will be better in a couple of years
