wayland is the best that could happen to all linux competitors. imagine wasting time on shit that doesnt work, never worked and never will
You just described the X window system
You say that, but by the end of the year, the vast majority of Linux users will be on Wayland.
... still trying to make it work
What doesn't work, pray tell?
screen sharing? screen recording? automation software? global hotkeys? tried virtualbox today on wayland and it shits itself the moment you touch any menus, works on x11 btw.
That tells me nothing, if you're not gonna share which compositor you're using, and which version.
you mean what workaround hacks and which version of them
The problem is that ignoramuses like yourself talk about Wayland as if it's a monolith, but each compositor is its own project.
GNOME has demonstrated for years that Wayland can work. If you're using some other discount compositor, then I see why you've had a bad experience.
But to be honest, I doubt you've ever actually tried Wayland.
>ignoramuses
on wayland i can press win+r to record my screen
First two should work on default GNOME Ubuntu no?
I can't help you if you're using some weird troony distro or a virtual machine.
>screen sharing? screen recording?
Pipewire
>automation
not happening right now
>global hotkeys?
xdg portals
lots of functionality that Wayland offers is handled by your compositor and xdg portals backend. works for me kde plasma 5.27 Fedora 39, even the fricking hotkeys for calculator, email, home, and sleep work
>screen sharing?
works on my wayland kde 6.0.3@linux 6.8.6-2
machine
>screen recording?
works on my wayland kde 6.0.3@linux 6.8.6-2
machine
> automation software?
works on my wayland kde 6.0.3@linux 6.8.6-2
machine
global hotkeys?
works on my wayland kde 6.0.3@linux 6.8.6-2
machine
on nvidia, everything.
No way to create custom resolutions. This I know for a fact and makes wayland literally uselss to me.
But can you access gpu gamma ramps or do any color correction at all?
Can you do xrandr --scale 2x1 or similar?
Do you support different scaling filters?
>hourly babyduck cope thread
Spoken like a true loonix user
what happens after post 1 trillion?
>wayland
doesn't werk
>xorg
werks
its over
>imagine wasting time on shit that doesnt work, never worked and never will
that's all of linux
i can't say windows because those people were paid
i've been using various linux distros for like 20 years
what the frick is "wayland"?
even modern systemd-free community distros are ridiculously fricking bloated and you want to add MORE useless garbage?
How have you been using Linux for 20 years and don't know about Wayland? I've used Linux for that long and I knew about Wayland since its inception.
Read the Wikipedia article.
cool larp but wayland is 16 years old at this point
how 2 linux with nvidya?
Wait for the nvidia 555 driver on a X11 session, and install kde 6
Once the 555 driver is out you download it and switch from X11 to Wayland
>baby duck
Anon, every distro will implement and improve Wayland. In a couple of months, it will catch X and surpass it. Stop coping.
2 more weeks
>imagine wasting time on shit that doesnt work, never worked and never will
But enough about Wayland
