Were police less corrupt in the past or is it a newer thing? Or is it just that we obviously lost the evidence of it in the past.
Seeing things like this makes you wonder how bad it could have been in the past without videos, even then these guys got away scot free, the people in the car just weren't arrested.
Or was the police more honourable at its inception, before the drug war when it was less militaristic, and more of a civil service
They've always been corrupt, if not way worse in the past. just look into any unsolved cases pre 1980s
I mean, corruption always existed, otherwise we wouldn't fight it.
police have been corrupt as hell forever as an established norm
its only in the last 30 years with mass surveillance that shit has come to light
the idea of protect and serve is a bunch of crap, that's never what police forces were for
What were/are they for then, moron?
securing the intersts of the rich and powerful against the masses
Yeah bro. The police in North Korea definitely exists to protect them from criminals and not to enforce a pseudo tyrannical monarchy.
You know bro, law and order.
The police is just old men hiring other less old men, to control younger men out of fear and to protect the status quo.
To defend the bourgeo-capitalist oligarchic hierarchy.
So any1 with any possessions or money? Got it.
how does “the order of things” mean that
>POLICE ARE JUST PUPPETS OF THE ELITE
Look Black person, who is more likely to call (i.e. use the service of) the police on a normal day? People living in shitty impoverished neighborhoods where violent crime is rampant, or people living in rich neighborhoods where violent crime is unheard of outside of the occasional domestic incident?
people living in the rich neighbourhood.
Those people call the cops on hobos for loitering before just talking to them, if you call the cops over some bullshit in a shit neighbourhood you'll be harassed for the rest of your days there as everyone knows someone or has themselves been arrested and have negative associations with police
because hobos are usually mentally ill public blights that should've been thrown in an asylum years ago
>"Aw c'mon dude you can't arrest a guy for just pissing on the sidewalk and screaming incoherently at bystanders, he's not ackchoally harming anyone, just ignore it breh"
you could just deal with something so small yourself instead of feeling the need to call armed guards. Like yes they are mentally ill, why call the cops so they can freak out at eachother instead just getting them a coffee and saying move. Do you get scared when you walk past these people?
It's their job to deal with public nuisances, why should public spaces be left to the devices of the mentally ill out of some lolbertarian belief that unless a schizo is assaulting someone they should just be left alone?
Why do you think there's so many Karen types, male and female, nowadays?
It's because this call the cops for all your problems culture has made people weak and entitled, and antisocial. And it also makes you reliant on the government for all your help, as soon as these people can't get help from the cops and lost their entitlement, they keel over and cry. And if shits actually dangerous anyways, you pretty much will die before the cops even come.
and i mean "unless a schizo is assaulting someone they should be left alone" i mean yes, or they should be at least put in a home, why would you arrest them other then your scared.
We need to bring back martial arts culture, so people can actually deal with problems as a community and have sense of basic self assured defence without having to rely on a corrupt government
>Why do you think there's so many Karen types, male and female, nowadays?
Because we live in increasingly-atomized societies where there's no realistic alternative for dealing with these problems. What do you expect some 5'2 woman to do when a belligerent 6'2 schizo starts harassing her kids?
>or they should be at least put in a home
Who do you think will be in charge of "putting that schizo in a home"? Hint: It rhymes with "bops"
>We need to bring back martial arts culture
"Martial arts culture" isn't going to be much help for that 5'2 "Karen" facing off that 6'2 schizo
You can't deal with small shit yourself though. Criminals through trial and error know the limits of the law and keep things in the territory of being a civil issue. Cops literally turn up and say "lol go to a lawyer". which takes months and you're fricked if it's something like a tenancy dispute which leaves you bankrupt. You have to physically do something to resolve it which involves you being charged with assault or trespassing.
This is true for new Zealand, Australia and especially the UK. Out of the Anglo countries only the united states has some semblance of cops actually enforcing the law.
Female cops is the other shit thing about the modern police. If you get one of them on a callout, just roll the fricking die and see what arbitrary result you get.
95% of the time they're just sitting there, maybe mumbling to themselves or holding out a cup or sign. Maybe if you go to a town center at 5 or 6 am you might see a few of them actually wandering around talking to themselves.
>if you call the cops over some bullshit in a shit neighbourhood you'll be harassed for the rest of your days there as everyone knows someone or has themselves been arrested and have negative associations with police
Sounds like an American issue. Being arrested and jailed is not a common problem in Irish neighbourhoods of any class
I thought you guys hate the police for allowing all the pedophiles to be let lose over there.
I just googled and found this photo so people obviously dont like the cops
That's probably in reference to a London cop who recently raped and murdered a woman
and what about places like sherrif street
You really have never been out in the real world have you?
Considering it was revolutionary to insure cops were actually patrolling New York and not just going home at the turn of the century
wait that's hilarious lol, pre 1800s donut break vibes
police forces were created to control and subdue the population, the idea of them protecting ordinary citizens from crime was completely foreign before the industrial revolution.
>control and subdue the population, the idea of them protecting ordinary citizens
Sometimes controlling and subduing the population is part of defending it. Protestant rioters damn near lynched the Bavarian ambassador in London during an anti-Catholic sectarian riot, and the riot only ended when the army stepped in and started shooting them down

Need proof? kek
Damn this was an interesting read
the same Milwaukee cops who handed over a 15 year old boy to Jeffery Dahmer to die because lyl who cares just some gay dudes having an argument
are you suggesting they should have homophobically infringed on mr. dahmers rights?
they should have protected someone from dying
if anything they are probably much less corrupt today, because living conditions are much better.
it's easier in the Internet age to expose police bad behavior. decades ago it wasn't really possible. and police didn't necessarily have to follow the Bill of Rights until the 60s and beyond; they did a lot of stuff that would be plain unacceptable today like coercing a confession out of suspects.
>were police less likely to abuse the members of their community during the times when members of a community actually knew each other instead of just staring at screens?
Also go in the archive and look up the thread about Marcia Trimble.
>cops are so convinced a teenage boy did it that they refuse to accept an alternative explanation and instead harrass and terrorize multiple families in the neighborhood
Most cops are shit in my opinion, just by nature of the type of person who would want a job policing other people, you have to have some level of a moral superiority complex to want to that which in turn leads to an influx of buttholes.
but as i remember watching this interview from my hometown and it always stuck with me as an example of the ideal cop
hadn't seen it in a while and found it, but yea he seems like a genuine guy who wants the best for people who live in his town, and will actually get to know them and see them as people
>404 not found
he really does seem like the ideal cop
depends
cops are based when they keep the urban wildlife under control.
>government officials
>in a relatively small group personally knowing each other
>with a paramilitary organization
>and contacts to politics
You are just begging for corruption with police departments
Also a siege mentality towards rest of society.
Back in the day minor disputes were handled by the community and the police only got involved if it turned serious. If someone dumped shit on your property or stole your chickens, you likely stepped them out with your cousins. Things typically didn't escalate too far from that, but if they did the police clamped down on it immediately. Now the cops have to involve themselves with any and all pretty shit because violence is no longer shrugged off or ignored.
The police used to absolutely deal with repeat offender criminals and homeless schizos. Theyd just pick them up for loitering and lock them in a cell with and added beating. If they seen you downtown and you had no reason to be there, they'd simply take you away. Loitering was actually enforced, you -couldnt- just go wandering and causing mischief.
They were corrupt but only really fricked with the ones that always caused problems. Nowadays they have to deal with the same tard harassing women 20 times in one year because the law constrains them so much. You talk to police about it and they're just tired of going to the same houses dealing with the same problems.
While it's true people used to use their families to handle disputes the problem with that is is that it could lead to a more serious problem and then you have a serious family fued that could last generations even if the parties involved have died. Kind of sucks but that reasoning and also that higher ups like Lords and royalty doing their own justice is why organizations like a long standing military, mayors and city council and police and yes organized crime gangs is why people put their trust in those governing bodies because they didn't want some lordship or some incestuous hicks causing random killings. Oh have the times changed
Everything the government touches becomes corrupt
I didn't know Hitler joined the NYPD for a short time, wtf?
Police were always distrusted, in fact, white Americans defending the police is a very modern phenomenon.
The British themselves were proud of NOT having policemen, and made fun of the French for living in an authoritarian state which needed policemen to oppress the populace. Britain only decided to create a police force after the Gordon Riots resulted in attacks on Catholic embassies in London, lynchings, and no force besides the army being available to curb the rioters.
>Police were always distrusted, in fact, white Americans defending the police is a very modern phenomenon
With state and local police it may be debatable but it is near universally agreed that Federal LEA are shit.
Saw a documentary where they said before police there were just night watchmen or sheriff's deputies who were unpaid (yes just like jannies) and tended to be old retired men or young boys who volunteered to patrol around a city or town and because they were unpaid they tended to be corrupt and used their positions to steal from citizens. Or in some cases the military would step in to patrol villages or towns near castles or forts and they too you guessed it were corrupt as frick. In Metro London since it was rapidly expanding they decided to use a paid constabulary so in theory the corruption would be lessened and they'd assume the constables would be more professional and they wouldn't need to rely on the military or volunteers. Your mileage may vary on how successful that turned out in long run however.
There used to be literal private militias everywhere
Absolute Power corrupts absolutely, give a man power over another and it will corrupt him, like you said in the past we didn't have the internet and smart phones, so way more bad shit went unnoticed
I'll never forget being underage, drinking in a skatepark and seeing a bobby taser a 14 year old girl for attempting to run away. I've been harassed by police on countless occasions. Once, a 6-man squad mobilised into an armoured vehicle and descended on me and my gf at 2am (both 16 btw) for smoking a single joint in a skatepark shelter. I got arrested over barely an inch of a joint in my possession. I later ran into one of the cops that arrested me in a bar when I was STILL underage and he bought me a pint as some kind of apology and explained to me that one of his superiors was watching the CCTV and ordered the team to go and put an end to the "suspicious activity". What's more infuriating was that the cops separated me from my gf to fricking interrogate me and took me around a corner out of sight, where we came upon a man and a girl having sex. I recognised the guy as some 20 year old waster and later found out that the girl he was fricking was like 14 and the police just told them to go away just so they could intimidate me with a criminal license over the literal butt end of a joint I had in my possession.
I fricking despise police in this country. They'll spend an untold amount of money to destroy the lives of natives by imprisoning them in a prison environment that will almost certainly mold them into far worse people than they were going in, whilst being complicit in allowing Pakistani rape gangs to abuse thousands of children for decades. Police really do deserve petrol bombs hurled at them in Minecraft
Kill a pig today
Internal corruption is probably about as bad as it was, probably a little better, since oversight is lot more robust these days.
corruption directed externally, taking bribes and doing jobs for external clients, that's a lot lower because it's just a lot harder to A) get away with and thus B) much harder to afford.
