An anthropomorphic cat, a decapitation, Jesus and Pontious Pilot, the devil and Russian bourgeoisie, and allegory. Pretty good, lots of people have a rather strong distaste regarding it for some reason, best as I have been able to tell it is because plotgay but it is always hard to figure these thing out since all they do is screech at you if you try and discuss it with them.
Everytime I have tried to discuss it with someone who did not like it they generally reduce it to "communism bad"--which is just silly, Bulgakov was more nuanced and specific than general ideology--and then they b***h about various plot details divorced from their function beyond plot literal.
well he did have to get it by soviet censors. Apparently they missed all the little things like government-approved writers eating roast turkey for a couple cents while the population was starving
>well he did have to get it by soviet censors
It had a fair amount cut out. It did not get published in full until after Stalin.

if I recall correctly, "only" about 12% was cut and then it was mostly the nudity, references to secret police and Bulgakov complaining about the lack of housing in Moscow

a thinly veiled political commentary that in the last act abandons all pretense of narrative coherence and just becomes an LSD fever dream
I would not call it veiled, it is about as blunt as you can be without resorting to outright exposition of the worst (Arlt) kind.

A book that makes dirty commies seethe
I'm fairly sure the Gulag Archipelago makes commies seethe 100x more than this, M&M is just too metaphysical and underground
I'm fairly sure nobody takes the Gulag Archipelago seriously.
>M&M
>underground

Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court but Faust
A phenomenal premise that's nowhere near lived up to and is ultimately quite mid
A slow, purposeless first half and a dark, brooding and beautiful second half.
