What as the sociological reason for the proliferation of UFO cults int the 70s? If UFOs were cold war angst as is often taught in HS history courses, wouldn't this be the least likely time for them to start popping up?

Asians (or at least Japanese) have a lot of UFO cults.

Yeah a lot in Europe. It led to the rise of UFO cults in Europe.

There are actually plenty they just don't get translated into English, and UFO organizations that keep track of things are notoriously filled with narcissist BPD drama homosexuals who don't talk to each other.

For example, few people know that the MIB were actually a UFO organization (NIICAP) going around and intimidating people to keep them from talking to other organizations so that they could hog all the attention.

        Lol, more about this?

It's a long story but you can look it up. If you've ever looked into /x/ shit for more than a single night, if you listen to any of their podcasts, they all know eachother and have little personal conflicts and drama that being a D list barely famous pos brings. Most of them are BPD or some other personality disorder and being abducted or seeing an alien is just a symptom of that.

In regards to the NICAP this is some very obscure arcane UFOlogy lore and I can't even find it on the web, but it got brought up in a podcast I can't remember by a true UFO sage who'd been in it since Roswell that the MIB myth got started because a couple of the field team people from NICAP who he knew went around harassing people to keep them from talking to investigators from other orgs.

NICAP guys went out in pairs an did wear suits and black hats, and it actually made a lot of sense why they would be warning people not to talk to others about UFOs since they wanted the scoop for their own magazine and to get all the fame and cred for it.

After they did it a few times the myth got started and the rest is history. They were known to be extremely dramatic and homosexual and eventually this lead to the organization folding up under its own internal conflicts and it got replaced by MUFON, NUFORC, CUFOS and others.

UFOlogy drama is the most extensive part of UFOlogy, to be fair I did some more digging after realizing I didn't have the history down, and some sources I trust (not schizos, balanced skeptical views) say its sort of up in the air whether the CIA started NICAP and whether they killed it because it was bugging them by filing lots of lawsuits for information on the Air Force/generally being annoying.

But the thing about the MIB was just field agents being scummy, might have been Stanton F who told the story, or maybe it was Bob gribble I can't remember. I checked skeptoid and some of the other skeptic leaning blogs and they attribute MIB myth to other stuff, but the story did sound legit and not far fetched at all. That sort of things still happens.

*by field agents i mean NICAP amateur field investigator volunteers, not the CIA, for clarification

UFO sightings are a global phenomenon
The most famous african one is probably
      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ariel_School_UFO_incident
A similar story was reported in Melbourne Australia in 1966
      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Westall_UFO
You can find documentaries that feature interviews with staff and students of these schools quite easily if you look.
I'm not sure if it's the most famous European UFO sighting but my personal favourite is Rendlesham Forest
      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rendlesham_Forest_incident
      Because of the audio recordings

There are several ufological cases in Europe, some in Africa, such as the case of the Ariel school in South Africa where children of both colours saw a flying saucer and aliens on the ground. Less so in Asia and the rest of Africa in general.
I believe that the social aspect of these reports is not only the fear of the unknown, but also the fact that technology is advancing, the space race is taking place and the cold war is raging. It's important to note that the contactees generally say that the aliens don't like nuclear weapons and warn us to take care of the planet.

Wicked spirits. People have this weird idea that spirits are the ghosts of dead people but spirits are a type of being indetectable to our 5 senses, there are many different species and races of spirits. And they nest and breed like any other species on earth.

Its related to sub-specistion of the species, as their roots are, literally, not humam.

I have posted about this extensively. Check it out.
