What does?

What does IQfy think of picrel and their translation of the Bible? Is it as much of a shitstain as people make it out to be?

read Pastor Russell and Joseph Rutherfords books. They are batshit insane.

A lot of them seem to be sociopathic dicks, so there's that.

It's linguistically a very accurate translation, aside from parts where they blatantly alter stuff to fit their moronic dogma
For instance there's some autistic shit about how Jesus was actually crucified on a straight pole not a cross. The fact that crucifixion was a well documented Roman execution method used on thousands of people is just something they ignore
Jehovah's witnesses in general are a cult for spastic weirdos, you would do well to avoid them at all costs. Join literally any other denomination aside from these freaks.

      >For instance there's some autistic shit about how Jesus was actually crucified on a straight pole not a cross
I never understood why JWs believe that or why that's so meaningful to them. And I wouldn't want to ask a JW about it themselves because JWs entire personality is just recruiting for their cult.

I have the feeling that it could be their nontrinitarian stance. Even then it is weird since to my knowledge no other denomination has made this distinction from the mainstream notion of the cross.

          Anonymous

That can't be it because that's not a biblical doctrine as there's endless debate over it today but not one peep in the NT about it whereas there was debate over believers in the NT who wanted to push circumcision on others. Circumcision was just one single work that some believers wanted to push on others, but groups like JW or RCC add more works than that and Paul said any who would preach another gospel would be accursed.

I dunno, Jehovah's have some weird fascination with proving they've found hidden truths buried in the bible that prove everyone else is wrong and corrupt
Some homosexual no doubt dug through the bible, found that the ancient greek word for "wooden cross" could technically be translated as "wooden stake" and latched on to that
They're big into biblical numerology as well for similar reasons (further evidence of autism)

They did affirm the cross at the start, they turned to the pole later on for reasons unknown to me. I'd assume it has something to do with being a shock device for recruitment purposes "heh did you know Christians didn't even get the cross right? Here let me tell you everything else they get wrong..."

      Ex JW here.
JWs fear/hate other religions, and try to distance themselves from them in any stance they want. That's why they insist that Jesus was sacrificed on a pole instead of a cross, or that Jerusalem was sieged by Babylon on 607 B.C.E., following the miscalculations that originally lead to the Great Disappointment (that then Pastor Russel yoinked to say that the end of the world would occur in 1914. JWs still believe that 1914 was an imporant date but chewed and stretched to ridiculous extent.)

But yeah, the New World Translation sucks. It's deeply flawed, tailor made to fit their beliefs and overall ugly in their wording.
An example, they insist that Jesus is not capital G God, so they do all sorts of weird shit to many parts of the New Testament.

I grew up in that cult and they are underpants on head moronic.
I was told as a teenager in the 90's that Armageddon would probably happen before i finished high school.
There was a lot, i mean a lot, a parental violence and abuse and it was openly sanctioned by the elders, encouraged even.
The congregation in our little town was about 150 people and in the 25 years or so since i left 8 kids i knew have come forward with credible sexual abuse allegations against elders. At least 3 of these people actually took it all the way to court and got pay outs, big ones.
My parents are still, 30 years later, living in expectation of Armageddon, convinced it's going to happen any day now.
They don't speak to me or my sisters because we've left the stupid cult. They've never met their grandkids.
Avoid this cult like the plague.

I was a JW for a good 5 years of my life. It wasn't that great. Had my mom confiscate my electronics if i didn't prepare myself to study for the meetings. I don't miss doing that shit anymore, though it did give me a bit of confidence in speaking to a crowd, as i used to do bible readings in front of the church or "Kingdom Hall" as they call it. Also probably the only time i ever looked attractive, i won't bother to show you because that defeats the purpose of an anonymous imageboard, and i highly doubt anyone would even care

I'm just glad I'm out of that cult

Not to say you are wrong but i think they are at least better than mormon, now thats a crazy cult.

For all their bullshit Mormons take their doctrine very seriously and live it. Most people have no idea how extensive the Mormons' missionary program is but they legitimately have better and wider language education than any governmental entity on earth, for example. There's an enormous network of Mormon-run businesses that nepotize each other harder than israelites do, they just don't care about influencing others to the same degree so they tend towards more stable "boring" businesses in middle America. The average Mormon also seems to have grounded values that they care about, outside a few weird enclaves they've all got happy families.
JWs are far crazier and far more cultlike. There is no upside to becoming a JW, you just have to start raving about the apocalypse and tell everyone that they're going to hell and your fellow cult members will all be illiterate morons. Mormons, meanwhile, are building their own fricking parallel society.

Nah, it's not even close. As batshit as Mormons are they don't try to control literally every aspect of your life or ostracize people over petty disagreements. Mormons are allowed to have friends outside the church, disagree with official church doctrine and criticize church leadership without having their whole congregation turn against them

Ironically aren't JWs way more popular in Europe? Isn't it like what a big televangelist megachurch would be to an American is what JWs would be in somewhere like France of Italy that have more established Christian roots than Amerimutts.

I have the feeling that it could be their nontrinitarian stance. Even then it is weird since to my knowledge no other denomination has made this distinction from the mainstream notion of the cross.

I don't see how nontrinitarianism would make the physical structure of the cross any different. Old American Unitarians in New England still believe in the cross. I don't know what UUs would believe because they basically don't actually believe in anything.

    It’s not actually a translation.

By that, I mean they literally just edited other translations (added and removed things) to make the existing translations seem to agree with their ideology. They didn’t go back and translate the Hebrew and Greek like real, reputable translations. Because it’s not a translation—they didn’t translate it from one language to another, they just edited the existing English ones and pretended it was a new translation.

For example, they added the word “other” four times to 1 Colossians 16 - 17 to make it sound like Jesus was saying all “other” things were created eternal but not Himself. This is not in the Greek text, it’s just blatant editorializing to make it sound like Jesus isn’t God.

Not only is it not an accurate translation, it’s worse than that because they went out of their way to butcher the Holy word of God to create a cult that claims there are many gods, while blaspheming and saying that Jesus Christ is not God but a “creation” of “gods.”

Unironically one of the most plausible interpretations of the bible. But since they are slightly outside the overton window they are called cult instead of denomination. If you are Christian and make fun of JWs for being crazy then you are a moron

My wife used to be one. She had similar issues as well. Have seen her waking up crying in the middle of the night because of nightmares about Armageddon.

I took her to church since she wanted to go. The message was about God's grace and she cried her eyes out because of how beautiful it is.

Since we got married I've read crisis of Conscience to try and learn more about what it is she was in, and reading about the groups origins, and more unknown beliefs just made me sad.

Any way long story short, I've seen the damage it can cause and am glad you're doing better since leaving anon.
