>But how did it work? >What would it sync against? >How would you sync it? >How is it different from copying and pasting from a pendrive?
This is how it was used. >end of workday >you still have to finish some work at home >create a new briefcase inside the floppy drive >copy budget.xls from documents/sheets, notes.doc from documents and presentation.ppt from documents/presentations into the briefcase >eject the floppy drive and take it with you >saturday morning at home >insert the floppy at the home computer and edit the budget.xls from inside the briefcase, you save your changes and close the file >open presentation.ppt, add only 1 slide >phone rings, it's the boss >there is an urgent meeting at the office the presentation will happen early Sunday morning, you leave immediately and leave the floppy inside the home computer >at the office after the meeting you open the original presentation.ppt from the office computer >saturday late night, you leave the office >monday morning >you are the office again, insert the floppy, open the briefcase >click the "sync files" button >it finds that budget.xls from the briefcase is newer so it replaces it >it finds that notes.doc is unmodified, it doesn't make any changes >it finds that presentation.ppt is edited at both places, but the one in the office is newer, it prompts you what to do, you select keep the local version from the office computer
It was a very neat solution
Oh you were supposed to edit it INSIDE the briefcase lmao I see now.
Thanks anon, when I discovered them I was a dumb underageb& and never got it to work
I actually used this for storing my 3D modelling projects. Unfortunately I don't think such a folder will ever see widespread use but I was glad to have that already there for me.
By the time I'd figured out Briefcase I was already using Dripbox ao I feel sad that I missed out. A genuinely useful feature killed by Microsoft just for the sake of killing.
iirc you could throw files in there and transfer them easily to a floppy disc or something.
it's like 20 years ago or something, I don't really remember.
Shut up Black person. Windows briefcase was awesome. The only original and good desktop metaphor abstraction Microsoft ever introduced. I miss it so much.
It was a way of syncing your work files to an external drive in a semi-automated way
But how did it work? What would it sync against? How would you sync it? How is it different from copying and pasting from a pendrive?

THANK YOJ
We don't talk about that folder
I use that folder every day
Why and how would Windows know I needed a folder to dump my images of attractive women?
Most of the leadership and development teams at Microsoft are pajeets. They've been looking at women like 3D objects for centuries already
REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
for vrchat?
dial 8
I actually used this for storing my 3D modelling projects. Unfortunately I don't think such a folder will ever see widespread use but I was glad to have that already there for me.
how was it different from a regular folder?
It was already there and it had a neat icon. That's all.
What part don't you believe?
the fakest and gayest story on IQfy this week
>directory for storing pictures of women
Gee thanks Windows
I use it to store stl files for my 3d printer
Redundant. All objects are 3D. 2D is only for images of objects.
SOVLFUL SHIT
OneDrive zoomers will never relate

So, like a folder
There was some weird syncing feature or whatever. Nobody really used it.
>iirc
>recalled nothing
>incorrectly
why did you even feel the need to post?
when I was a kid I would use these instead of folders because I liked the briefcase and it was like I was a cool businessman
You're literally me.
>we are all me
>when I was a kid I would use these instead of folders because I liked the briefcase and it was like I was a cool businessman
high-five
Same
i just thought the icon looked cool and it made the files inside there feel more important
Version control but without branches and only replace files

You dont put a briefcase on your desk
i do
