Swann’s way is both the perfect love novel but also much deeper than that it is the perfect meta literary excursus on the meaning of art and literature themselves and the relationship between life/ love and the art which immortalizes them.
>If you remove Leviticus, Numbers and both books of Chronicles sure.
Chronicles are alright, but I am convinced people who say they enjoy Leviticus and Numbers are larping

I mean, what other book can offer so much? From heartbreaking drama to scatological humor, to philosophy and vaudeville nonsense, sometimes dead serious and sometimes insane?
Reading this currently and enjoying it more than I expected. It can be very touching at moments, and laugh out loud funny at points. Early today I was reading the bit about how a baby’s nose is squashed by a nurse’s firm breasts and allowed space to grow when the baby is nursed by a maiden with saggier breasts. For some reason I don’t mind his digressive ‘postmodern’ style at all, but more recent examples are unreadable to me.
