Blacks are culturally American. Every bit of "black culture" outside of places like Louisiana and places inhabited by the Gullah is just rebranded poor white southerner culture. Blacks were much more like their white counterparts before the 1960's when black nationalism arose and they felt they needed to create their own weird distinct identity.
Natives on the other hand primarily fall into two groups; those who assimilated and those who remained native. The ones who assimilated are indistinguishable from white people and are typically only part native. The ones who didn't are typically passive aggressive towards whites because of the whole "you stole our land" thing and because of this they try to be as alien to whites as possible as to hang on to their dying culture. As to why the former is preferred over the latter, it should be a no brainer at this point.
