Der Ring des Nibelungen. This was decided long ago. Siegfried is Shinji, Wotan is Gendo, Fafner is an angel, Brunnhilde is Asuka, etc.

    >supernatural forces and battles
    >family relationship troubles
    >individuals having to face the end of the world, but also the ability to avert that doom resting on special individual's choices
    >psychoanalytical themes like incest and rebelling against the father
    >balances mythology with individual drama
    >literally invented the phrase 'live, laugh, love'
    >basic message is leave art and politics and enjoy life (Wagner originally wanted to perform the Ring for three weeks then burn the theatre and score so people could take the message into the real world, build a better society and not get lost in the work itself)
    >similarly choreographs movement to intoxicating music

        What do you think?

        >Daring to represent erotic stimulation, passionate ecstasy, and the torment of sexual desire, Wagner sparked intense reactions from figures like Baudelaire, Clara Schumann, Nietzsche, and Nordau, whose verbal tributes and censures disclose what was transmitted when music represented sex.

It's really obvious neon genesis evangelion was a ripoff of childhoods end. So probably a book that has nothing unique of its own but gets overhyped by pseuds. Warhammer novels are the first thing that come to mind.

holy cringe, you can just link a gameplay video instead of your ꜱoytube video essay.

I feel Evangelion is too pretentious even for Wagner. Also Wagner invented the whole musical leitmotifs playing at important events thing which everyone after him copied, so it's not that big a deal.

except all the symbology in NGE is just cheap larp that doesn't mean or add anything and is solely there because the maker thought it was cool (admittedly it is pretty cool, but disappointing that it actually has no relevance to anything)

on top of that, NGE has the most one dimensional characters. Shinji is a b***h that responds in the same fashion in every situation, asuka is a b***h that responds in the same fashion in every situation, rei has smiles once and then resorts back to being a b***h that responds in the same fashion in every situation. The only character with some dimensionality to her is Misato, she can at least respond in 3 different ways (alcoholic, hecking cool bosswoman and sensitive (with Kaji)).

to add even more, the plot is absolutely paper thin. It all builds up to this epic reveal, where all things will connect, only for the reveal to be completely skipped and we get this lame "accept urself :)" show. Now there doesn't need to be a reveal, but the problem is how poorly it has been handled, it literally just skips ahead, nothing fits together or is even hinted at how it's supposed to fit together. The angles attacking, SEELE, NERV, the spear of Longinus, who built that pyramid thing, what are the robots actually, etc., it literally is all randomly put together, there is no larger significance, it's just mystery for the sake of mystery. The entire plot is just "let's fight aliens in big robots" and then keeps adding random mystery shit that doesn't mean anything and is only very vaguely related to the other things that randomly got added, and then it randomly ends.

It's incredible people go out of watching a materialist rendition of occultist Kabbalah alchemy in EoE and all they can say, after being drawn by its universal symbols for long enough to stick that far, is "lol its just random bullshit anyways". Like you're so close but somewhere along the brain your normalgay brain instinctively says NOPE and shuts down.

Evangelion tries to tell a new story using elements from The Bible.
The angels are the fallen angels from Genesis. After humans experimented with the first fallen angel and got knowledge out of it, the second impact happened which caused a flood that killed 50% of poblation. In the same way, in the Bible, humans get corrupted after having knowledge from the fallen angels, so God sebds the flood.
The fruit of knowledge and the fruit of life also have meaning. In the bible, the fruit of knowledge brings death. In evangelion the humans are beings from the fruit of knowledge, so they die, while the angels are naturally immortal because they are beings of the fruit of life.
Then you have the Messiah symbolism. Shinji is christ. He is crucifixed with 2 holes on his hands and choses to save humanity even with all the pain that brings. This is even mentioned in the opening.
All of the angels have the names of the fallen angels from the book of Enoch.

And those are the ones that comes to mind, I haven't watched the show in like 5 years. Do I need to continue?

Yeah, definitely the show called Neon (New) Genesis (The first book of the bible) Evangelion (Gospel, the books of Jesus the messiah) is not related to the bible.

It’s almost like Genesis is a synonym to the word beginning. Taking lore from a religion doesn’t make it adhere to the heart of philosophy of it. The story has its own characters and world building that has zero connection to your stupid book.

            >The story has its own characters and world building

Also, I never its taking "lore" from the Bible because that's just not true. It takes inspiration by having elements similar to the ones in the Bible. But keep reading whatever you want.

Infinite Jest. Hal is stuck in an infinite recursion brought about by his father's research in nuclear and quantum phenomena (only JOI an hero'd literally, not just spiritually, and the science behind it is also smarter). What it lacks in poorly used israeli symbolism it represents through its structure. I guess complete human homogeneity into Tang is replaced by Netflix so it's a bit more accurate. The characters even work similarly: Gately is Kaji, Misato is the PGOAT, etc.

I once knew a kid who was borderline gay and a big EVA fan. He was exactly what you would expect, all too introspective, lacking self-confidence, felt awkward socialising, a little bit feminine. In other words, the archetype of proto-homosexual psychology. Of course an anime like EVA attracts them, and they all project themselves into that romance with Kaworu (when I asked him which girl he said Kaworu). Because, whatever the exact nature of their psychological problem is, they feel a sudden relief when seeing gayness as if it's healing the wound, the answer to all their problems. And then they consummate themselves to gayness and become gay for life. What you should be doing is being attracted to Asuka, that's the true voucher for your having grown up and gotten over your pubescent problems, and that's exactly what happens to Shinji at the end of EOE. Fricking men isn't an answer to life, and it's not something you can conclude your life with, unless you want to be eternally psychologically stunted like most homosexuals.

        >not being so straight you self insert as the girl being with another girl
rei being with misato in my case

Shinji takes the feminine, submissive role in his pairings with Misato, Asuka, and Kaworu. Even though he's the male parts-wise his role in the pairing is the feminine role, because those three figures are assertive and take command of their interactions with him. The only pairing where Shinji himself takes the masculine role is when he's paired with Rei.
