Reading is mostly dumb. After "broadening my horizons" I don't think I've changed or elaborated many opinions beyond what was calculated when young. You have to remember that humans are a very delusioned and limited species.

All young people are moronic and the ones that don't realize learning is a lifelong process remain so.

Absolutely learning is a lifelong process, but what exactly are you learning? Books are generally not very clever.

Perspective. We can learn something new pretty much from every person because we all had different journeys that yield different insights. For example, by learning about Alexander I learned about not leading your army through a desert because the navy that's supposed to supply you can get cucked by storms for month which will result in you losing 75 percent of your army.

I prefer granular insights about the universe, than anything narrated or stated.

I don't even know what that looks like because the narrative is what gives information context. Can you give an example of granular insight about the universe that's not a narrated?

This is a fundamental aspect of literature, funny enough. It's totally self aware.

A view into other subjectivities alien or sympathetic to one's own. Delight in mastery of the written word (in physical form as text structure/prosody, and subjective Idea). Making frens across time.

To understand why literature is the greatest art you have to consider the hegelian idea that we are the universe observing itself, and that literature is an enormous collection of the greatest minds contemplating the nature of their situation. It's the most satisfying form of communication.

the point of art is to foster social action. if your art is not aimed at creating understanding and bridging the gaps between cultural differences, then it is not art at all.
