      >quetzal feathers [Mesoamerican edition

These were very valuable, but i'm not sure they are the MOST valued substance. I remember one time I tallied up the relative scarcity of different materials listed in tax obligations of different Aztec subject provinces to see if gold, fine feathers, or jade/turquoise was the least common substance, and I remember fine feathers being more common then gold.

Of course, being rarer as a tax obligation doesn't necessarily mean it was more valued, there's probably like a dozen other methodological issues with what I was doing since it was just a quick example I was making, but I do think it would be a bit assumptive to say that Quetzal feathers were necessarily more valued then gold or turquoise or jade or something like Spondylus shell. I think those 5 substances are probably the most valued, though, it's just the order between them i'm less confident with.

Also, it's not just the type of feather that matters (IE quetzal vs spoonbill vs hummingbird vs macaw, all were valued) but also the quality/condition: the Mendoza makes a distinction between feathers of the same color in tax offerings, vs "fine" feathers of that color. Likewise, the same Tlahuiztli warsuit in terms of design and colors are listed both as normal and "made with fine feathers", and the fine feather versions are consistently listed in being given in lower quantities, I think in a way that DOES imply more value/scarcity, even vs tlahuiztli designs normally tied to higher military offices (which also is a good illustration of how our understanding of status in the Mexica military is just a small cross section: simply because the codex mendoza shows a 2-captive ranked soldier with Cuextecatl patterned tlahuiztli doesn't mean that Cuextecatl tlahuiztli's are only worn by soldiers with two captives, the mendoza always lists Cuextecatl ones made with fine feathers and with quetzallalpiloni tassels suggesting use by higher status soldiers.

Also, keep in mind I am speaking about to the Aztec here, other cultures may have valued materials differently (gold wasn't even a thing in Mesoamerica till 600AD), and that i'm not including crafted goods/art, something like a tlahuiztli warsuit made from fine feathers and with gold/jade inlays or a huge monumental stone sculpture would be priceless

    When was a 2x4 actually 2x4?
    >In general, homes built before World War II were likely to be built with rough-sawn full-dimension 2x4s. During the late 1940s or early 1950s, builders in many areas of North America switched to planed 2x4s that measure 1.5" x 3.5".
    2x4s that measure 2x4

    It's about to be tritium.

nah, tritium can be manufactured, in fact has to be manufactured because it decays [into helium-3].
He-3 used to be interesting as a potential commodity. It exists in the lunar regolith and in the gas giants' atmospheres. Although it was soon realised we could just harvest it from decaying tritium.

Deuterium might end up being the real commodity on account it exists as a 'fossil fuel' from the earliest universe. Stars don't create it. Even here, I wonder if this too can be manufactured from hydrogen neutron-sponges (like tritium).

The most after thing is food in general, specifically meat>cheese>butter>milk=eggs, second most sought after thing is sex if in hot climates, shelter if in cold climates. Nothing was ever "priceless" and the demiurge is a moron. The most "sought after" seasoning has always been salt.
