Use mint
It's perfect both for new and veteran users
I've been distrohopping for years and settled on mint as it's the best choice by far that just works
Arch, installing it is pretty simple if you can follow instructions or skip it and use archinstall, maintaining it isn't a big deal, -Syu once a week/month, set up reflector and you're good
Use EndeavourOS for now. Read their and Gentoo Wiki always. Learn from that and use a good search engine like Searx and Startpage for when you need to figure out shit. An Arch-based Distro should be recommended more than things like Ubuntu and Mint. You learn more being thrown in to the deepish end. Good luck, fren.
Kubuntu. Easy to get started and ubiquitous so you can always find a guide. Use Kubuntu specifically, since gnome that ships with regular Ubuntu is dogshit.
I started on Ubuntu with the Windows wubi installer and would never have gotten into foss or learned to code if I hadn't. Don't shit on easy distros there are many times and places for them. Recommending arch or Gentoo for a noob is the best way to ensure they'll never try again.
>Don't shit on easy distros
I didn't, Mint is great >arch for a noob is the best way to ensure they'll never try again
idk about that, it worked out good for the steam deck
Arch or, if you don't wanna go through the manual way/don't want to use archinstall, Endeavour >inb4 muh -Syu breaks
no it doesn't. never had Arch break on me
>Don't shit on easy distros
personally my first distro was Ubuntu around 2009 or so. kinda liked it but I ended up going the hackintosh route for years instead, then tried Arch years later and loved it. then went to W10 because of a game and now I'm back on Arch since that game works well with Proton now
I wouldn't shit on beginner distros but I'll definitely shit on Ubuntu for going corporate and adding telemetry and other israelite shit into their distro. if one doesn't want Arch then Mint (or even better, LMDE) is good, Endeavour's fine too for beginners

This, I've been on the same setup for years, it never broke and I have nvidia

I'm thinking about giving Artix a try, though, haven't done it yet because I'm too lazy to backup and reinstall all my shit

You're probably better off staying on Arch, if you're lazy, like me. Artix tries to do too much and it's never as well implemented as a distro that focuses on a particular init system. At least test before you switch.

yeah I have a live iso on my main machine so I can try, and I have a few spare SSDs in case I want to try an install too
I'm alright with systemd, I'm kinda curious about how much faster/lighter other init systems can be though. I heard a lot of good things about dinit

Artix does look cool, if I ever find a reason to ditch systemd I'll look into it
He won't lean the terminal. People who switch should get comfortable with the terminal. Also, the AUR will solve more problems than it breaks. Windows users should be using things like Chocolatey too.
Kubuntu
Remove Firefox snap and install official deb
Install flatpak
Done
You get the best DE and a stable distro. You do not want bleeding edge shit like Arch, it's high maintenance, can break and is vulnerable to supply chain attacks.

arch tards are fricking moronic desktop ricing trannies lol
and the repo packages are owned by chink agents lmao
artix is nice the installer is idiot proof so is debian and bsd, not sure why arch doesnt have an easy installer yet they like to act like they have choice but the only choice that matters is made for you already (systemd)
>Is arch Linux best course
it is
nobara
You want to LEARN Linux (with possible frustration involved) or you just want to USE it to run your stuff?
Arch if the former, Debian/Ubuntu/Mint if the latter.
Use mint
It's perfect both for new and veteran users
I've been distrohopping for years and settled on mint as it's the best choice by far that just works
Why do people skull arch then
because they love tinkering with their OS's until it breaks
with mint you don't have to do that
gen2
Flip a coin. Either RPM or DEB based.
If RPM based then Fedora.
If DEB based then Ubuntu, Debian, Mint, PopOS, I don't know, you figure that shit out.
AUR mogs both
it is of no consequence.
ubuntu

Mint. It's easy, it's simple and its not windows
Dont listen to archgay virgins shilling their piece of shit distro if you don't already have a cs degree or smth.
>t. filtered by archinstall
Arch install is python dogshit that breaks when doing anything remotely funky with partitioning
>filtered by ten commands or one with archinstall
NGMI, but yeah Mint is a good choice too if he doesn't want a rolling release distro

Cinnamon is incredible, but, it doesn't have the excellent multi tasking capabilities of gnome
I use PoopOS and I like it. It has sensible defaults and a user-friendly interface and installer.
I would install Fedora KDE edition for a noob. The other best suggestion itt is wait for the new Linux mint long term support to drop next month.

Who are you quoting
something with KDE 6 because nvidia is fricking garbage
EndeavourOS

Arch trannies is why there never will be a year of the linux desktop
>freebsd
Arch, *buntu, Mint, Pop. Whether its for work or tinkering pick one and get to steppin'.
IT DOES NOT FRICKING MATTER.
