One of those Black folk that fell for the >Your resume must fit on one webpage
meme, leading them to compress everything, which reduces readability.
If your resume goes over ten pages, because you have that much shit to write about, so be it, but as long as it's readable, you show that you care about how its usability, and that's what counts the most.
I want to see a list of some recent projects, which aspects you were responsible for, and which technologies you used.
Normally, unless you're a fresh grad, this should be combined with the employment history (like ).
If you present it some other way, such creativity might make you stand out but I also might get suspicious that you're trying to hide something (like a gap in employment).
I also want to see evidence that you're familiar with key concepts in data structures and algorithms, basic mathematics, etc- some self-taught people have serious gaps in their knowledge here, so if you don't have a relevant degree you should at least have passed some MOOCs or something.
Programming languages aren't too important as long as there's more than one listed and you have experience with static types (so not just JS or python). If you needed to learn a language specifically for a particular project, that's worth emphasising.

People with 15 years of experience typically don’t need cv advice or formatting tips. This just gives newbs the impression to load up with meaningless nonsense since they haven’t had the time to build a history of work like this guy. I find these types of CVs very misleading for the average person
Thanks to Joe Biden, we'll always be struggling. I make 50% more than I made 4 years ago, but my quality of life is still roughly the same (comfy enough, but not great) because cost of living has skyrocketed.

IIRC, hHe lives in Norway, so do I. Here, it's rare to make $100k as a software engineer and those that do usually have 15+ years experience. And you also need to consider 30-40% income taxes and also wealth tax on whatever you manage to save.

Norway is only one og three countries that have this (in addition to property taxes and income taxes and everything else). I literally need to pay both property tax and wealth tax on my apartment. I suffer in Norway.

Why would anyone put those on the resume unless they were applying for a lead position or project manager? It’s just assumed that you know these things.
This is very bad example because this is a CV. CVs are for academia ONLY. There is not a single corporation that gives a shit about his list of publications when they are looking to hire software developer. Also nobody gives a shit that he implemented some CRUD webshit in 2013, describing it in such detail is pointless and will be ignored anyway. When looking for a job you need to craft your RESUME to be as straight and to the point as possible, not be intimidating wall of text, and with clearly visible major skills and latest experiences in the most relevant technologies to the job you're applying for. You need to assume HR will spend at most 1 minute (and usually less) looking at your resume and if it won't instantly convince them to invite you for an interview then it's over for you.
Why did you do the MSc / PhD after getting a job in the industry? Do you think it helped you getting better pay? Or was that not the goal? And if you're bold... how much do you make?
>Why did you do the MSc / PhD after getting a job in the industry?
The MSc was to get a programming job. In Norway it's uncommon to get a developer position with only a BSc. The Java job I had was only a short-term contract, but the I front-end gig I managed to get while I was doing my masters.
I went back to do a PhD because I could only find Java jobs. Even the C and C++ jobs I found were not really challenging, and I felt I wanted to do something more interesting than web back-end or embedded stuff.
>Do you think it helped you getting better pay? Or was that not the goal?
Definitively did NOT help wrt better pay, I had a negative salary increase for the first years (the PhD stipend was way lower than my programmer jobs).

I wont give you an exact figure (because my current employer is listed there), but if you include bonuses I make over 1M NOK before taxes.

Yeah, my current salary is very decent, but as you said, wouldn't recommend this path for anyone looking to make a lot of money. I also suspect that the reason I make this now is because I managed to work full time next to my master's and PhD.

Tja, vet at NSM nylig lyste ut stilling for nyutdannede.

Just saw this. There’s sometimes interesting discussions going on here by people who actually know stuff, for example, Andreas Kling (the serenityos guy) started posting here before his project off. But I’ll admit that the interesting discussions are few and far between.
Well it better be impactful research, and someone I respect, or they're not getting the job. Not mentioning it is a flag they just did the minimum required.
If he is looking for a job in academia, then sure.
If not, then literally no one cares. I would even suggest removing the publication list, or replace it with patents or whatever.
For academic (multi page) CVs, sure you put those things on. For single page resumes, you don’t. It probably varies from country to country, but I had theee supervisors for my MSc thesis.
>all the replies fawning over this CV >anons despairing they will never be this accomplished >over some basic b***h guy with nothing remarkable in his career
lmao either this is some advanced baiting or IQfy really is full of worthless NEETs that have zero skills, never been employed, and stopped education in middle school
You're being ironic, but this is true. You can absolutely get an interview or straight up hired by having stuff like this.
I have multiple friends who got hired with small tricks like this. As an example, if you apply to LinkedIn, either put "burning man" somewhere in your resume or shoehorn it into your interview.
Is it really true you have to feign some sort of mental illness to get hired in tech these days?
Tell me more, I might be desperate enough to get a job
The advantage of LaTeX is using variables for content, so you can easily switch between languages while keeping a consistent formatting.

There's painful but then there's THAT.
As much as I am appalled by bronies, I wouldn't automatically pass up someone for such a resume. It is well made and clearly took effort. Probably someone creative too, and I won't have to worry about him having children, so probably won't object to make lots of hours. Might even like it. I would be very wary that this guy would start inserting his mental illness into our software though. A feminst would probably do that too, but a company won't get discredited as much for having some LGBTQRSTUC++ flag easteregg as a pony in some creepy position.

Why use LaTeX for this and not something like Word? Serious question.
I hate wysiwyg editors with a passion, and I haven't used any Office products (or even Windows) besides Powerpoint in over a decade.
I feel like this isn't your view though, rather one that's been pushed onto you via academia where *TeX is held as a status symbol.

Try using and taking the (small amount of time) to learn a modern one.
This. No one uses latex in the real world.
I don't use LaTeX because "it's a status symbol", I use it because it's the appropriate tool for the job: typesetting a (printed) document.

Tja, vet at NSM nylig lyste ut stilling for nyutdannede.
Henger du i Norgetråden?

What are you doing on this mongolian basket weaving forum? Seriously, why are you wasting your time here?

Last refuge of the indefensible position.
It's attention-seeking behaviour, only women, children and homosexuals do that.
Just saw this. There’s sometimes interesting discussions going on here by people who actually know stuff, for example, Andreas Kling (the serenityos guy) started posting here before his project off. But I’ll admit that the interesting discussions are few and far between.
Terrible design -> straight to the trash
Why doesn't the PhD section list the dissertation and supervisor? Isn't that important information?
>dissertation
Might be relevant, but depends on the publications.
>and supervisor
Nobody cares about this, unless it's someone super famous you want to name drop.
You expect me to read all that crap?

Welp
I used this template as a new grad with some modifications and it increased the number of interviews I was getting
Yeah same. I used a version without the publications in the bottom, but otherwise pretty much like this one and I got noticeable more interview calls.
>all the replies fawning over this CV
>anons despairing they will never be this accomplished
>over some basic b***h guy with nothing remarkable in his career
lmao either this is some advanced baiting or IQfy really is full of worthless NEETs that have zero skills, never been employed, and stopped education in middle school
>IQfy really is full of worthless NEETs that have zero skills, never been employed, and stopped education in middle school
You must be new here
Looks nice, but too much like a scientific paper. At first glance I already feel myself zoning out. Stuff that matters should stand out.

I used this template like a year ago and unironically got a job offer pretty much straight away after switching to this.
should be in JSON
I'm applying to jobs soon. Thoughts?

You should include at least one photo of yourself attending pride.
What would "burning man" mean in that context?

The advantage of LaTeX is using variables for content, so you can easily switch between languages while keeping a consistent formatting.

This resume makes me laugh hysterically every time I see it. Doesn't matter how many years it's been.
I remember him complaining that no one would hire him. I wonder what he's doing now.
Hopefully prison time.
If I had memories of doing something like that I'd kill myself, I wouldn't be able to function due to the memory cringe.
This guy is dead but he was a fricking baller. I don't have a copy of his latest up to 2016 but he used this format consistently and ended up with Apple and NatGeo on it.
He also gave great interviews which is how he got hired to basically anywhere he wanted. 140 IQ with huge charisma.
Oh we all function with something as painful in our memories. You're just good at suppressing it most of the time.
Doesn't surprise me. I always thought when I saw his Pony shit that I'd hire him if I didn't hate autistic pedophiles. The industry runs on such people so NBD for him.
>Oh we all function with something as painful in our memories.
There's painful but then there's THAT.
He's doing extremely well

As much as I am appalled by bronies, I wouldn't automatically pass up someone for such a resume. It is well made and clearly took effort. Probably someone creative too, and I won't have to worry about him having children, so probably won't object to make lots of hours. Might even like it. I would be very wary that this guy would start inserting his mental illness into our software though. A feminst would probably do that too, but a company won't get discredited as much for having some LGBTQRSTUC++ flag easteregg as a pony in some creepy position.
did you see the part where I said
>Doesn't surprise me. I always thought when I saw his Pony shit that I'd hire him if I didn't hate autistic pedophiles. The industry runs on such people so NBD for him.
Of course you'd hire him. We all would. A guy like that's a worker who will deliver functional commits on time.
it should definitely have your pronouns and they shouldn't be he/him
Yeah, sneak in a WHITE PEOPLE SHUT UP and BLM ACAB in there too if you want guaranteed employment
Oh my god, it even has a BLM watermark
I'm pretty open to anyone's beliefs as long as they remain civil about it and know when to keep it to themselves.
This card however screams troublemaker.
Everyone knows these people are fricking trouble.
What they have is not "beliefs". They have revolutionary ideology and are trained to agitate, ladder-climb, and wreck anything productive. Their politics are an advancement strategy, not an ethos.
Also the card is a fricking meme everyone knows and you're a gullible idiot. A complete mark. Harden the frick up, homosexual.
Kek. How much of a nerd are you to use big language like that, mr meme expert.
>that post was "big language"
There's no hope for you I'm sorry bro.
