it uses Electron. what did you expect?
if you have special needs, find a special client.
if one doesn't exist, make it yourself.
if you can't, get with the program and update.

I am up to date, I just enjoy using old hardware from time to time. Things were manufactured with a lot more quality in the past. Sue me Black person.

      Why are you using Windows?

      I'm not.

No one can support legacy Windows other than Microsoft.
No one can support legacy MacOS X.

If the Vendor abandons a piece of software, and it is not open source, there is nothing anyone can do about it.

Either capitulate to the demands of the Vendor, or stop using their software.
Whining about it won't change anything.

for all the talk about apple supporting software for a long time, it seems that doesn't extend to their flagship operating system
i just looked i up and the 10.13 listed there only came out 6 years ago, with the last security update 3 years ago, only 3 years of support? 6 years old and it's considered dead and buried? that's newer than windows 10

      >apple supporting software for a long time
They support hardware for about 7 years. They don't support software for longer than 7 months.

I know this is an alien concept to Windows users, but other platforms actually do get better over time because the companies who support the software are in the business of offering better software in order to get more customers

Microsoft doesn't have to make their software better. People just keep using it no matter how bad it gets. Their bet is always that even if they drive some users away, they will make more from the ones who remain.

Nobody has to support BSD or Linux systems from 7, 15, or 25 years ago, because nobody wants to use systems that badly out of date.

i'm not a windows user, but i have been previously. i haven't been a mac user
my post is mostly a joke, like you said, it's only windows users who care about using obsolete versions of windows because it keeps getting worse over time. using linux the last 20 years i feel zero desire to use an older distro, if i want to use some old software or make it look and feel like an old one i can just go ahead and do that with a current distro. like i can make a 1999-tier desktop with windowmaker, xmms, and mplayer right now, unlike windows where you can't just install say, the win7 explorer on top of win11 (you'd think someone would have tried that, maybe it's just too intertwined. the only one i've seen is putting win95's explorer in win98)

It's not an alien concept because Windows was that way up until 7 too. Microsoft then became malicious and you know they don't design for their users anymore.

can someone tell why the video quality isn't the same as the original on youtube when using these front ends?

        Anonymous

youtube only provides video+audio streams up to 720p30, anything higher is provided as discrete video and audio streams, this means any player needs to be able to handle or multiplex the streams itself
it's not hard to do, but it is something else to do so some of the simpler ones don't do it

People do not owe you infinite legacy support just because you are too poor, proud or lazy to update. You guys always brah how you will never allow deadshitos to die so here is your time to shine. Learn to code and write your own client.
