Greed(of local leaders and colonists alike), islam in the parts affected by it and unwillingness to move on from tribalistic ways. That's a very rough tldr.

      >islam in the parts affected by it
      You mean the Islamists?

      >unwillingness to move on from tribalistic ways
That us such a vague non-statement. That's like saying the EU's biggest problem is "red tape" or the US is it's "military industrial complex".

        That's why I said it's a rough tldr.
        >You mean the Islamists?
That mostly, but also because in sub-saharan africa the interpretation of the texts is often some of the most literal in the islamic world.

          >the interpretation of the texts is often some of the most literal in the islamic world.
A lot don't really do that unless you mean in the parts getting bombarded with islamist influence like the Sahel. SS-African islam is typically stereotyped as being pretty lax relatively, heavily steeped in local indigenous practices, or a "strict-loose" reading on top of a lot of reform movements and shake-ups

      >islam in the parts affected by it
The Islamic regions of Africa gave rise to its most prominent kingdoms. Islam was actually a net positive for them

      >Greed(of local leaders and colonists alike)
There isn't a single region in the world that was not subjugated to another power , this is cope

      >unwillingness to move on from tribalistic ways.
The regions that accepted Islam literally let go of their tribalistic ways, even today with Christianity, sure there are remnants but that doesn't explain anything it's basically saying they refused to evolve because they refused to evolve.

Africa is a shithole through and through, they had no history for thousands of years and sure you can try to explain it via geography or luck or try and redefine the meaning of "progress" but a fact remains they were not able to go beyond the most basic of societal functioning. Even today the continent is purely dysgenic in it's evolution amazingly regressing in a world where complexity is reaching it's climax. Their contributions to society are meander and sometimes useless.

I get it if we have to assign a level of progress then there is always going to be a group at the bottom. It's Africans, they just have to deal with it.

Historically for sure, but now it's coming back with all the schizo jihadist militias casually committing some of the biggest terror acts of the century almost monthly.
        >here isn't a single region in the world that was not subjugated to another power
Again I think the key is that some of the local rulers were extremely complicit in the slave and raw material trade and straight up fricked their own land for short-term gain. I do not think the slave trade or colonization ruined africa by themselves, but also denying their part in ruining it is laughable.

Because Libya was torn open and that gave islamist organisations and easy in into the region with hard to control borders and a way to overwhelm/subverting local movements like the Tuareg.

Empires, kingdoms, military, religions, local production, taxation, arts, culture, music, castes, hierarchies and heterarchies. How is that not societal functioning at all.

        >Their contributions to society are meander and sometimes useless
It's not a contest or race anon. Especially in a globohomosexual world where pretty much everything is is connected.

        >It's Africans, they just have to deal with it.
That's just a shitty zero-sum mentality. The capitalist system isn't zero-sum but powers steering it into being one as well as fricking things up like with pollution/climate change won't help anyone. Especially with power shifts and potentially having the tables turned.

I'm sorry but I assign human value to the ability to conquer ones environment. Africans developed sickle cell before finding treatment to malaria.

          >That's just a shitty zero-sum...
I don't see Africa reaching middle income (5k GDP pc) in the next 30 years, there is a tremendous amount of work that needs to be done rn but as anons have pointed out in this thread noggers gonna nog.

Black person how do you think the African Great Lake kingdoms operated or the many states across Africa? You think they didn't do any taxation or no ring of influence?

            >Africans developed sickle cell before finding treatment to malaria.
Suckle cell exists in Italians and Indians with their own mutation. Do you know how malaria works exactly? Even if you get cured or treatment the next mosquito will pozz you up. Most tropical diseases either don't have cures or do have one bit prevention is what people resort to.

            >I don't see Africa reaching middle income (5k GDP pc) in the next 30 years
Which part of Africa? Also gdp per capita us a garbage state because states like UAE abd Equatorial Guibea have really inflated numbers with gdp per capita. Development takes years to do and expecting non-industriaslized states to speed run it when China STILL hasn't fully developed in it's entirety seems pretty weird to fixate on.

Those groups don't have any detail either in that map. Where the Cushitic, Berber, Semitic, Omotic, Chadic and Egyptian? Hadza isn't a Khoi-san language, it's an isolate. Niger-Congo has the same issue Afro-Asiatic has on the map, Portuguese is not listed at all nor English.

Claiming Nafris and Moors, although there is for sure some African contribution when it comes to Moors, is a near-exclusively AA thing. In the African continent they're hated, and West African militias have launched extermination campaigns against them time and time again.

For west Africa, Moroccans destabilised the Songhai kingdom while it was already suffering from civil strife. The Atlantic slave trade picked up after that and as a result, no strong states could form until it was taken over by colonial powers in the 1800s. Most of the countries are puppet states of France to this day.

    >what went wrong
    Eden economics
when your environment is luxuriously sufficient for growth with minimal human effort, centralization of tribal institutions and permanent works, whether cities, large irrigated complexes, meeting grounds, etc. — along with their glorifications through culture — is practically non-existent.
This is why "African history" isn't about states, kings, innovations, conquest and construction 90% of the time, because Africa defines its history through ethnolinguistic population movements (when the Eden economics fail) almost entirely. Entire regions in Africa had not even a de jure governments until the XIXth Century; in the regions that did sometimes, either the civilization collapsed due to their attempt to optimize Eden economics — which NEVER fricking works — or regressed until a foreign etholinguistic conquered them again
It's just baffling that people never consider that almost inexhaustible food for cattle grazing and foraging — until it doesn't, for climatic reasons — is the main reason African history and African culture are so underwhelming compared to the rest of the world

To support my point, I'll cite the Malian Empire.
Honestly, I don't get the hype around it; certainly, the emperor itself was massively rich due to gold, but the economy of the central government was practically reliant on this, and tributes; because it must be said : Mali was a tributary empire, and tributary empires have a really bad historic track record for continuity, even in the other regions of the Old World, and some of the New.
To make a comparison, the Aztecs operated a tributary empire, which meant a ludicrous amount of autonomy was lended for its constituents. The central government barely had any impact on the culture, religion, language, infrastructure and economy of the constituent, it just extracted wealth from them through a loyal tributary lord. Basically, this made the central government invisible to its subjects, and this bad news for many reasons, most of which is because if you're not there but still extract something out of the people there, they might just get rid of the superfluous central government. It's even worse in Mali, where the Emperors bankrupted the ludicrous economy of the country.
Yes, the Malians BANKRUPTED the primary source of gold in the world before the Americas were even exploited. This meant that they had to extract more tribute from their subject, again with zero returns on investment. The migrant Songhai exploited this in order to form their own tributary empire on top of the disintegrating Malian authority.
