They allow their clergy to marry, thus providing them a socially acceptable sexual outlet which doesn't end with them raping little boys. And we can't have that.

That really doesn't matter when so-called 'Catholic' countries are in just as dire a state as any Protestant country today. It's an extremely superficial and petty expression of religion, which cannot even be called religion, to say 'my country is slightly less accepting of gays than yours!'. Wow, you're truly fighting the good fight. It's pathetic, and shows these people in fact care more about their side winning than the actual moral state of society and humanity.

The Apostate Church was founded in the 4th century by an atheist looking to consolidate political power. By the 1500s the Apostate Church was fully acting as a worldly government, abusing its subjects, and teaching doctrines and superstitions totally contrary to Scripture. They were so desperate to retain power they actively killed and tortured anyone who tried to actually distribute scripture.
How anyone thinks there's a perfect, infallible, and unbroken continuity from Jesus Himself to Pope Francis is insane

        >founded in the 4th century
Huh, kinda weird that Ignatius of Antioch, who was directly taught by the Apostles, used the term "Catholic Church" in the 2nd century then.

          Anonymous

What a lame gotcha. Catholic just means universal and the term "universal church" is still printed in every Bible. The institution of the Roman Church was founded by Constantine and the fusing of temporal powers into ecclesiastical matters sealed that church's fate and caused grave harm to God's purpose on Earth.

            Anonymous

And even if you accept that cope Protestantism doesn't meet the criterion of "universal" because there are thousands of different sects of it that can't agree on anything.

Sure and the Constantinian Church split at the time of The Great Schism and going into today you have division even among Romanists over Vatican 2 among other issues. You're just one of many sects.

            >division even among Romanists over Vatican 2
No one "denies" Vatican II except a tiny fringe of schismatic sedevacantists who aren't even recognized as real Catholics either. The upset over Vatican II is in debating the extent to which it did or didn't have rather bad implementation.

What a terrible grasp on history you have. Do you think the entire Reformation was based on fictions? The early Roman Church claimed temporal authority and over the centuries the clergy mixed with the aristocracy. Popes crowned kings. Nobility purchased themselves seats as bishops. They worked courts, collected taxes, made edicts. This is basic history.
The false doctrines and superstitions of course include Saint worship, icons, relics, Purgatory, the perpetual virginity of Mary, Simony in the form of indulgences, etc. I suppose you'll just play dumb and pretend like a a thousand years of history didn't happen.
            >Liber Pontificalis
Why waste my time? You should start with the Augsburg Confession.

The only denial of the perpetual virginity of Mary comes from "brother of Jesus." This comes from the word "adelphoi" which is used by Paul elsewhere in the New Testament to refer to 500 Christians, so you'd have to believe Mary had 500+ kids for that interpretation to work. Early Christians called each other "brother" the way monks do and even Lucian, a pagan, talks about this while he describes the early Christians.

Reformation was needed but Protestantism was not. Protestantism continues to be split and re-split into countless denominations, scattered sheep with no shepherd, often entertaining heresies.
            >Clergy mixing with aristocracy
What's the problem. Stop exaggerating the actions and effects of courts and taxes and remember Luther also was lobbying the German princes to get his way. The Church is in the world and things can get messy. Proverbs 14:4

The point isn't about being good. The point is to accept Jesus and be saved. Nothing you do can be accounted good on account of original sin. This means you can't save yourself. Only God can save you.
      1 Cor. 3:6
I planted, Apollos watered, but God caused the growth.

      1 Cor. 3:7

why does catholicism appeal to these groups at all? most of the bible has nothing to do with these people or their ancestors, and frankly I find their association with it to be highly disturbing. The latin americans at the very least should retain their own native religions if adapted to something theologically isomorphic to christianity

moron, you missed the part about "something theologically isomorphic to christianity", which would be easy to do. The native religions are super cool, and it's a shame to throw all that stuff out which developed in isolation for millenia. Do you honestly think they need to retain violent bits to be isomorphic to christian theology? That's an impoverished view of christ you have.

They threw out 7 whole books of the Old Testament and originally wanted to throw out 4 books of the New Testament but couldn't get away with it.

The reason they threw out the books was because the medieval israelites didn't use them.

The reason the medieval israelites didn't use them was, ironically, because the ancient Christians liked them too much.

This denomination fight is anachronic and irrelevant. The one true church is the invisible one, made up of the people that follow the teachings of Jesus Christ, and make him a part of their spiritual inner life. They can be catholics, protestants or even not a member of a temporal christian church, it doesn't matter, they're still true christians, truer than people that know the Bible or the dogma by heart by don't have compassion for their enemies.

Depends on what one means by enemies. I've dealt with rivals in such games as social status, neighbors obnoxious to regular sleep or quiet study or simple backyard relaxation, tactless managers and arrogant bureaucrats, schoolyard bullies and petty and occasionally violent criminals to avoid according to their means, goon cops cut of pretty much the same cloth, a particular wealthy octogenarian benefactor of an ill-conceived and viciously administered charitable institution, workplace b***hes ripe for sendup of their generally foul natures, family members with an infuriating lack of the sense of proportion. a few friends who lost their head over one thing or another. But actual enemies, none that I can think of. Somehow I can't think or feel that much in terms of life as battle, not even against the elements. Not even against time and chance, since I've had a better time of it than most men who've lived in this most fortunate age.

Gospel is what matters. Division is a tool used to halt the spread of it

    1 Corinthians 1:10-17
    >[10] Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment. [11] For it hath been declared unto me of you, my brethren, by them which are of the house of Chloe, that there are contentions among you. [12] Now this I say, that every one of you saith, I am of Paul; and I of Apollos; and I of Cephas; and I of Christ. [13] Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul? [14] I thank God that I baptized none of you, but Crispus and Gaius; [15] lest any should say that I had baptized in mine own name. [16] And I baptized also the household of Stephanas: besides, I know not whether I baptized any other. [17] For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect.
