I’ve noticed that some progressives are trying to make moderate age gaps (5-10 years) between men and women socially taboo. This seems to be a recent phenomena, since relationships in media like pic related are still celebrated. What’s the historical reasoning for this? Where does it come from?

I dated an 18 year old when I was 33. I met her parents, she met mine. Nobody really cared or tried to stop it. Some of my female friends were salty all my male friends thought I was a champ. Never got a single comment about us from a stranger. I don't live in the states. Nobody cares outside of the US where virtue signalling is a national pastime.

Yeah anon, this is kind of why I'm not really big on the massive age gaps. It has nothing to do with anything other than young people will generally have different priorities from an older person. There was a point where I would date with an extreme age gap than myself. I ended up marrying someone with a 4 year age gap than which really helped keep us together in the long run.
My mom is 7 years younger than my dad, and while they are technically still married, they are incredibly miserable together and one is just waiting for the other to die, I wouldn't wish that on anyone.
I'm not saying a big age gap can't work, it can. But emotional compatibility and shared relationship goals for both partners is what matters more than anything else. If you choose to go back in the game anon stick with a age minimum of 23-25. I don't think a 23 year old is still mentally influential but has garnered more maturity and independence. I don't know if you do that online dating shit but girls generally like older guys who have a dating age minimum of above 20.

I've done it a few times. I feel like age gap relationships tend to end up like something in the classical Greek mode. The girl wants you to be a stable, caring guy who can teach her things and show her how the world works. In exchange you get to have great sex with a hot, horny teen. After about a year it usually ends once the inherent incompatiblities become apparent.
