Also, why do american based tech companies need to have such a public CEO?
Musk, Zuckerberg, Gates, Jobs, Ballmer, Dorsey, Bezos etc etc all have cringe inducing interpersonal skills. Why do they do it? I look at other tech industries around the world and the CEO's don't feel the need to humiliate themselves in public to sell their products.

So anyways, when did we stop viewing engineers and inventors as the creators of a product (Isambard Kingdom Brunel , Nikola Tesla, Alexander Graham Bell etc etc)? Musk et al have a gift for logistics and self-promotion etc but they didn't really invent anything. Who invented the iphone? I don't know but it wasn't jobs.

    Ballmer is not cringe

Ballmer had to buy an NBA team because he didn't realize that if you bring in ringers for Metro League high school basketball, they have to actually attend and pass classes or else the league will flip a shit.
      That's pretty embarrassing.

        Anonymous

I didn't understand what you said but sounds interesting. Can you explain it again for someone who knows nothing about basketball?

          Anonymous

Okay so basically the Metro League is the AAA sports league in Seattle that includes most of the private schools; Blanchett, Seattle Prep, O'Dea, and Lakeside in particular. Rainier Beach is a Seattle public school in the same league that is only kept around *as a school* because the basketball program pays for just about the entire operation and consistently puts kids in the NBA. Around the time in question, Nate Robinson, a Beach graduate and NBA star, was basically paying out of pocket for the entire Basketball Program and financed a massive remodel of their gym and athletic facilities.
Blanchett, Seattle Prep, and O'Dea are Catholic schools, and they have essentially been recruiting pro-level Basketball players with needs-based scholarships since forever. The most obvious example from around the time was Martell Webster, who went directly to the NBA out of high school.
Ballmer sent his kids to Lakeside. Lakeside is the Alma Mater for Bill Gates and Paul Allen, and it is the school where all the high level microsofties send their kids. Lakeside's athletic programs were pretty mediocre historically, and Ballmer wanted to win Metro and win State, so he got a few high level players into Lakeside so they'd start winning.
...Except they didn't actually attend or pass their classes. In contrast, Martell Webster, who was basically illiterate when he was accepted into Prep, was a sought after college prospect precisely because by the time he graduated high school he could easily meet the academic requirements for the NCAA for D1 play. (Which aren't very stringent, but they do exist)
When all this came out, Ballmer basically got kicked out of Seattle High School Basketball, and it happened to be exactly the same time the Clippers came up for sale, so he basically was confined to a smaller, less important basketball league.

Come on, nobody knows Gates, Jobs, Ballmer, Dorsey or Bezos. Everyone knows Musk and Zuckenberg because of social media.
The only reason you even hear of Bill Gates is because he gets interviewed by the news and the news posts on social media. If social media didn't exist, you would never know about him.
All CEOs are cringe. American CEOs are cringe on the internet.

The tangent from the raw economic realities of the EV market is this puff-piece from a marketing firm attacking a company for not hiring them. That's what this article is.

        >Caliber is a shake-down consulting operation.
Right, the fact that the company's newest product is a laughingstock is clearly unrelated here.

The laughingstock product makes money. The serious product from "serious ford tough, 100 years of ford tough, serious CEO, clear-thinking, too big to fail" is losing money.

It doesn't matter how confidently or seriously you place your bet at the roulette table. Completely irrelevant.

            >Because of pre-orders, genius.
How the frick do you think profitability is calculated? Do you seriously believe Tesla is sitting down in front of their shareholders pointing at a balance sheet containing only income?

The liabilities of the pre-orders are baked into the analysis. The assumption is made that a pre-order means the factory gets a build order. Believe it or not billionaire investors are able to make the inference that fulfilling a pre-order requires a vehicle to be constructed.

Tesla is the only US maker currently selling EVs at a profit, Aptera might soon join them, but for now it's Tesla, and Tesla somehow made the Cybertruck profitable despite all of it's absurd excesses, which should tell you something about how much they're making on their conventionally engineered panelled-monocoque cars.

Pretty sure the reason people are picking other vehicles is that the major manufacturers - Volkswagen, Honda, General Motors, etc - ditched the whole "our EVs must look really homosexual and stand out" internal memo they seem to have initially been operating on and started making EVs that actually look good. So now people are picking the good build quality of existing automotive companies instead of Tesla's tech company style shitware.
