What's the point of color e-ink if the screen is so dark that you need to keep the front light on all the time?

Worse. What's the point of releasing Dante's Inferno "With paintings" if you're gonna grayscale them? This is a literal physical book release.
that's not a "painting", it's an engraving by the famous Gustave Doré

Ah. I learned something today. Thank you for that. I did end up finding the translated version digitally but without the prints. But yeah, to get back ontopic, Eink screens are a meme for comics.
>Eink screens are a meme for comics.
Do you have any real arguments?
Give me an argument in favor of color eink. To me the benefits of eink are long battery life, and a reading-like experience. The benefits of digital books are customizable, weight, price, uniformity, ease of access, dictionary, easy marking, backups, searchable. There's hardly any downside to reading books thusly (can you name them?) Now eink color is a contradiction in terms. The technology isn't there. The usecase could only be on content that is fully color. So comics (if speaking of the benefits of such a technology) And I don't see the benefits then, not compared to HDR/OLED.
>The usecase could only be on content that is fully color.
It works just fine with content that only have sparse colors such as Japanese comics or all sorts of pdf.
The only thing you lose out on is the customizability and even there you have more flexibility than print by displaying double or half pages.
Markup greatly benefits from being able to distinguish colors.
Compared to LCD/OLED you have far better readability in natural light.
The problem I see with the new Kobos is that they aren't big enough.
>just fine
Not an argument. The question is not whether something is functional. The question is whether something has a usecase.
>sparse colors
Just a regular ereader would be better in that case, color eink would be only beneficial if the majority of the time it displayed color eink content
>markup benefits from different colors
No it doesn't. You've got 4 colors already.
>far better readability in natural light
But with shitty washed out colors.
What exactly does a b&w ereader offer aside from being brighter and slightly cheaper? Having colors adds a lot of options.
I've used one for a year now. The colors being washed out isn't a problem, what's relevant is that you can identify them.
>The colors being washed out isn't a problem
For you
>what's relevant is that you can identify them
?
If you have a diagram with different colored bars, it doesn't matter exactly what shade of blue, red or green it is, it matters that they aren't all mapped to the same shades of grey.
so you can enjoy the illustration and not have to pay double the cost due to the publisher having to utilize a new more expensive printing option.
This is called a woodcut and they are always monochromatic.
Japanese made colorful woodblock prints.
uh no anon thats a book???
it's a photo of a book, silly
Are you moronic? I have a Kobo Libra 2. All you need to do is swipe/drag on the left side of the screen. Its backlight is pretty good as it can go from being non-existant like paper to being as bright as a phone. Plus its battery life is also amazing so, assuming you have it turn off after a while, you can go weeks without charging. As far as color goes, besides looking at covers, color e-ink is only useful if you reading anything that isn't your standard novel like comic books or a pdf graphic.
>He doesn't know
Color e-ink (kaleido 3) has absolute shit contrast because of the additional color layer on top of the screen, making reading or seeing anything a pain in the ass unless you're in direct sunlight, so you're just gonna have to use the front light most of the time
it's doesn't make sense for a ebook to have backlight, you're confused
what's the point of reading if most modern fiction is full of emotional romance sex fantasies for femcels
You can read the classics like an actual man.
what's the point of gfs if they're not FOSS?
There is none, current color eink sucks balls.
Literal LCD color filter layer on top of b/w eink kek
There's nothing LCD about it.
My 2016 kindle is dying and I'm looking for a new e-reader. Should I just get "eBook Reader Amazon Kindle 2022, Display 6" 300 ppi, USB Type C, Denim"? It costs $150 in my shithole but seems to be the only good option. Can I upload pirated ebooks to it like I could with my old kindle?
We don't have many brands. I think those are the only ones we have that are worth mentioning:
>Amazon kindle
>Kobo
>Pocketbook
They're all about $150 except "eBook Reader PocketBook Basic Lux 4 PB618" which I assume is dogshit.
do more research until you understand what you're asking
are you ok, kid?
i'm fine
nah, you're seething
Boox has gotten fairly relevant in the past years.
It really depends on what you want to read and what other uses you have.
Kobo Clara BW is likely going to be a good entry level option.
thanks, I didn't mention it ITT but I did end up ordering a Kobo Clara BW.
You can view it in sunlight.
Libra 2 or Libra Color?
Is 7" so much better than a 6" screen?
I just want to read books on a decent screen...
>Color E-ink
I wouldn't buy any current gen e-ink color displays right now because they all suck. Maybe wait 2 or 4 years and see if anything changes.
To read outside. I highly recommend it for that.
At night you have to turn on the light either way.
go outside homie
It's RGB, it needs to be YMC.
>durr why doesn't a really smart etch a sketch produce OLED quality graphics
