When and why did 'conservatives' in the US begin to valorise Martin Luther King? They used to openly hate him for being a race-baiting subversive agent of chaos and violence. How did his reputation improve so much on the American right?

MLK was always a conservative Republican

That's the kind of revisionism I'm talking about. Nobody on the American right in the 1960's was trying to 'claim' MLK as one of their own. He was reviled as a commie agitator by most of them. But that changed at some point. Why?

republicans were always the party of the black man. but you had a wing of republicans from the wilson block that were sympathetic to the south. as they were southern republicans. those types didn't really like blacks that much. not to the same degree as southern democrats, but more than northern republicans.

Because it would be political suicide to criticize him. Why, you ask? Because American culture is centered around Black folk. They have holidays for Black folk. They killed hundreds of thousands of white men to free Black folk. They listen to Black person music. They elect a Black person as their president. They dress and act like Black folk. They draw the entirety of their modern culture from Black folk. They post sassy gifs about Black folk. They watch sportsball in worship of Black folk. Their biggest event of the year involves throwing parties in honor of Black folk playing sports. They use Black person slang like "bruh" and "thot". When you say "Martin Luther" they're not thinking of the father of protestantism. They're thinking of the Black person. Their cities are completely overrun with Black folk. They worship their ZOGbot police force disproportionately filled with Black folk and their global police force of soldiers filled with Black folk. Their men sit around watching Black person ball while their women sit around watching Black person talk shows. They worship Black folk like Muhammad Ali and Michael Jordan and Michael Jackson and the late Eddie Murphy while attacking the whites who actually built their country before Black folk took over. Their movies are filled with Black folk and their music charts are topped by Black folk. They send Black folk to the Olympics and celebrate when the Black folk win because those Black folk are true red blooded american Black folk. They watch Black person porn to a point where "BBC" does not make them think of an international media company but about Black person penises instead. They will tell you how much they hate Black folk and how the mutt's law meme is a stale joke and they are just pretending to love Black folk but the evidence speaks for itself in that America has always been and will be a nation of Black person loving Black folk

      >"I don't think the Republican party is a party full of the almighty God nor is the Democratic party. They both have weaknesses ... And I'm not inextricably bound to either party."

It's funny because George Wallace (who as the figurehead of Segregation could be considered King's political arch nemesis) said almost the exact same thing.

      >"There's not a dime's worth of difference between the Democrat and Republican parties."

King's assassination essentially martyrized him, making it political untenable for Republicans and Dixiecrats to expound significant criticism of him, especially in the face of his advocacy of non-violence.

Call me a whack job if you must, but personally, I've always entertained the notion that MLK's murder was engineered by fellow Civil Rights activists who wanted to:

A: Bury any reports of King's lecherous behind-the-scenes behavior before they ruined his reputation (and therefore the reputation of the movement).

    B. Create a martyr they could use to bash political opponents with.

That was part of it, but conservatives in states like Arizona were blocking the introduction of MLK day until the mid-1980's. So his death didn't immediately have the effect of causing conservatives to worship him. It took a while.

MLK did go into some communist meetings but he was never a radical like Malcolm X or the Panthers, hence he was always trying to distance himself from them.

In fact MLK enjoyed in his life time quite positive support from both northern and some southern whites. So it was easy to make a martyr out of him.

I think theres little doubt nowadays that LBJ had MLK assasinated for speaking against Vietnam, just when the military build up was happening.

Normal, he was a reasonable choice, between communists and hard-right madmen. I'd take the moderate-ish preacher too.

Prophets are hated when they're alive but their reputations are whitewashed and worshiped long after they're dead (usually by the same people who would've hated them when they were alive). In 1968 the man most hated by Americans was not Ho Chi Minh or LBJ, the most hated man in the country was MLK. He also made a lot of enemies when he became more involved in class and labor issues; liberals supported him when he went after racist southern sheriffs and legal segregation but when he went north to attack the class system and economic inequality (which he considered to be the root of racism) the libs quickly turned against him. He always believed it would be far easier to eliminate segregation than to eliminate slums and he was absolutely correct.

Jesus said something about how the Pharisees praise the prophets of old but if they were alive at the time they definitely would've tried to kill them for being subversives. Same with MLK, the conservatives of the '60s used the same exact arguments against him as the conservatives of today use against BLM.

Red Hot Take: Neo-Nazis in the future will praise BLM and Antifa (long after they've finished murdering all Blacks, israelites, and White Liberals in a genocidal race war of course) for ACCELERATING the race war with their rioting and looting.

It's already happening with the Taliban, go on any thread on /misc/ talking about Afghanistan and you'll see them singing the praises of the brave Mujahideen for defeating the ZOG oppressors when not two years ago they were praising Brenton Tarrant for murdering 50 worshippers in a Mosque.

Even as an Atheist, I'm always astounded by Jesus's foresight. The poor bastard just knew that same archetype of people who crucified him would be appropriating his name and legacy for all sorts of nefarious shit.

MLK - like Kennedy and Malcom X - was lucky to get shot when he did; his "People's Campaign" was floundering and the FBI already had mounds of evidence that he was a whoring, boozing womanizer.

If he wasn't shot he would've ended up one of those Jesse Jackson types shaking down Fortune 500s over not doing enough for "the brothers"

The "American Right" is just rebranded 70s liberalism. There's this antifa gaslight going around that because democrats take donor money(from organizations/people who are openly globohomo), the overton window is to the right... in a culture where homosexuals openly groom children and get police protection for it.

Bingo. In 20 years from now the republican party will be pushing for the civil rights law protection for parents who groom their children. Meaning the republicans would push to have hate crime charges pressed against you for harassing parents who inject hormones into their children. in 20 years from now the LGBT flag will be on the RNC HQ flag post.

Republicans have always been the democrats of 20 years a go. In 1897 people were saying that the republicans are just democrats that lag behind the rest of the group.

What constitutes "right" has changed, obviously, dumbass.

When the Klan actually were burning crosses and black people actually were victims, they had a very different approach, t hey were preaching about morals, they were putting across the image they were upstanding citizens just like white folks but had been put down just because of the color of their skin. Looting and violence sprung up but the intelligentsia knew encouraging it had more drawbacks than benefits.

Now they don't have to and the facade has basically dropped. Also most boomers are not really right wing, they were hippies in the 60s and 70s. They wish for the old days, the message they were spun in their youth. Judge us by the content of our characters not the color of our skin. High minded ideals, and what a wonderful place the world would be if it were true. Of course it is a pipe dream, most black people will always believe in preferential treatment for themselves.
