"The Best" plug already exists, and it's called TRRS or "S-Balanced" by iFI. It's similar to the Sony 4.4mm Quad, but it's 3.5mm and an open standard. You can swap it for 4p+g XLR but i'm not your daddy.
2.5mm is fragile as frick that's why it was never used. only "good" use cases for it are head sets for phones
that does not allow for volume control, play/pause, and microphone. you know, what people actually use their headphones for. unless you want to go back to the stone age with weird growths for that functionality. considering 3.5mm optical exited, it feels like there could have been a standard using the old headphone connector(s) for power, and optical for the general audio information.

this board is a shell of its former self. how many broadly duplicate artificial intellegence, image generation, etc etc generals exist now?
>that does not allow for volume control
you use interface/amp for that >play/pause
doesnt exist in recording. it's rec/stop >microphone
xlr literally was invented to use with mics for and foremost. it's the 'balanced' sleeve connection who is the odd one here >optical
oh okay, you're moron
sorry for arguing
xlr already made it obsolete decades ago. but not all instruments support xlr out of the box. so i guess this wont die any time soon unfortunately
hell the fricking rca still alive (used on some synths). if that is alive, i dont see aux cables dying either
DACs/amps (specifically dual CS43131 which are the current top tier performance and bang for buck) typically perform better in terms of power headroom and stereo crosstalk in balanced mode. balanced cables are pretty much immune against interference. a balanced cable can be used with single ended output with an adapter but you can't do it the other way around so they're arguably more versatile although a knowledgeable audio enthusiast would avoid that situation by having DACs/amps with balanced output or both types of output. balanced cables aren't even expensive so it's just sunk cost fallacy to defend single ended at this point.

Black person That's a lot of marketing for a stupid cable. Nobody is buying it

Contact cleaner to the rescue!
It's what one expects.
Wire will always have less signal loss than wired.
It's hardly that surprising.

2.5mm too flimsy
1/4inch too huge
3.5mm just right
You're right but 4 pin 3.5 is a b***h to solder to with the plastic cored earbud wires.

RCA is dead. Nobody uses it except vintage consoles.
My computer speakers I bought brand new two years ago use RCA

Name one reason anyone would get it

3.5mm is end game technology. There is literally nothing to improve
I want a phone with 1/4 inch jack
RCA is fine for runs under 100 feet, assuming it's properly shielded. Stop eating up audiophile gibberish.
