Nah. The reality is that it was sitting in storage where 4 cats routinely went and sat on it, that's why it was so caked in fur. I pulled it out today to clean it, but it was definitely disgusting to imagine that was its condition from normal daily use. Pic rel is what it looks like now.
Like two weeks ago, but I got it in 2019 and that was the first time I cleaned it. It was dirty enough that I gave that thing a bath, waited for it to dry out, and then put it back together.
It was pretty bad but it did not look like your pic, that is grotesque to say the least.
similar story with mine but with beer, luckily there's a rubber mat between the switches and keycaps and only two keys got liquid inside them. cleaned everything as best as i could and put wd40 into the affected switches after noticing them sticking a lot. works like new now.
I vacuum mine and wash over the top once a week, sometimes twice a week.
I pull the keys off once a year and put them in a bucket with soap water while vacuuming and washing properly under.
mine's a bit filthy but not really that bad, real shit's on my mouse

I use a hall effect switch keyboard. Dust doesn't mean shit. Why clean it if it will work regardless of all the gunk that lives underneath my keycaps?
