Literally anywhere. Can't stand when slop addicts build comprehension lists for Stephen King's work.
In my opinion you should read these: >the body >11/22/63 >the stand >salem's lot >misery >pet sematary >night shift short story collection
These are the perfect King slop. Everything else is same-y and uninspired.
>11/22/63
this one sucks. It's supposed to be a conspiracy thing but he just makes oswald do it. As far as I know, the standard alternative story does not involve Oswald at all -- his rifle was either borrowed or stolen from his house and placed in the book depository where he worked. He just got lunch on that day when Kennedy was shot, and had no idea what was going on until he was arrested, as Oswald said when he was picked up. The setup was excellent, but what a waste of a good concept.

Where do I start with Stephen King?
I've heard carrie is supposed to be good. Jaunt was kinda cool, there was a similar junji ito story.
>his long novels are a massive chore
I lost the bookmark on the book named It and I don't want to read it again, the story was nice but this wasn't worth the effort to read it again.
Read all of his short stories and novellas and his earlier short novels. Avoid his tomes, they are very overwritten and have extremely lame endings, almost without exception.
based takes from short fiction chads. my personal theory is that sometime around the early 80s, his editors began allowing him to do literally whatever the frick his coked out brain wanted to do with his novels, so, while his early works were only slightly pulpy/schlocky, we then ended up with doorstopper slop like a 500 page story about a haunted car, or the 12 year old sewer gangbang in IT, or absolute piles of self indulgent shit like Tommyknockers, Needful Things, The Dark Half, etc. In my view, because of the natural limitations of short fiction, he has always when composing it been manually forced to limit & control his compulsion for overwriting, & has thus in that format been able to consistently produce kino material of legitimate artistic merit
I feel like that’s true in general for horror.
Horror short stories tend to be better than horror novels. It’s hard to maintain an atmosphere of fear for that long, you have to throw in a bunch of drama shit unrelated to the horror, and audiences hate it when you kill off a main character at the end.
They don’t have that attachment to a short story, and you can really focus on just the scary aspects. A short story can just go “wouldn’t it be fricked if…” and be perfectly fine.

I'd say start with some of his early short story collections, like Night Shift or Skeleton Crew.
For novels, The Shining and Misery are both very strong and not very long (for King standards).
IT
Misery
Salem's Lot
The Shining
Doctor Sleep
Pet Sematary
Revival
11/22/63
Under the Dome
Night Shift (short stories)
Skeleton Crew (short stories)
Nightmares and Dreamscapes (short stories)
Different Seasons (four novellas)

In the trash.
Well, he's better than DFW.
his twitter
I'm glad you're this stupid
His short stories
He is best at that, his long novels are a massive chore

the trash can
His first novel was thrown in a trashcan by him and his wife told him to publish the story.
A rare moment of clairvoyance in the midst of a cocaine and sex with children addiction.
The coke and pederasty came with the book's money.
>sex with children addiction.
Source?
that would be the trashcan by the way
Start with Revival and finish with Revival
He's not fricking Kant or Whitehead anon you can start with any of his shit. I personally didn't think Cujo was too bad

Chapter one, bro.
stephen king sucks . go do literally anything else with your time
>stephen king sucks
why do u think so? i'm curious
I'd say start with some of his early short story collections, like Night Shift or Skeleton Crew.

The Shining
It’s already been said, but the trash can. None of his books are high art and there are much better authors for light reading
>there are much better authors for light reading
post names
>light reading
Learn to read for example.
Chandler and Conan Doyle
He is okay for the masses and an easy read, but he will never be great
>he will never be great
>literally called the king of horror
>its in his goddamn name
The king of slope.
>The King of Horror
Who is Edgar Allan Poe? Who is H.P. Lovecraft? Who is Ambrose Bierce? There’s a ton of people deserving of that title before King.
Who has the crown?
Doesn't help their case that King became a household name during his lifetime and managed to profit massively from his work.
Cell
His objective best
I'd recommend...
