Why not? worst case is you get rejected which is not a bad thing since it tells you more about the current state of your skills than just posting it on some random website.

Depends on what you write, different journals cater to different things. I bet wikipedia has a big list of literary journals you can explore. Find some which publish stuff you like and have at it.

I submit mine to journals and forget about them until I get a rejection or accepted. If rejected I revisit it and give it another round of rewrite/revision/editing before sending it off to another journal.
Honestly we should start a /lit discord and just swap stories
