i'm using my pixel 5 until it dies and then i'm gonna go with either a dumbphone or jelly star because i never use my phone for anything but taking the occasional picture or phonecall nowadays. social media is utterly deranged and my steam deck handles the rest of the internet nicely.
Honestly that was my plan with the Deck but its such a nice device I can't pick it up without washing my hands before and that genuinely limits its usability.
Obviously thats a failure with me not with the device but still, my $100 phone doesn't have this problem, idc if it gets nasty or drops but overall agree with you completely, probably gonna go back to my first phone after all my smartphones break.

I owned an original pixel years ago. I was doing a road trip from one side of the province to the other. The phone refused to connect to my car's BT for 90% of the trip. I was furious. The same day I got back from my trip I went out and bought a Samsung galaxy s9 and got rid of the pixel. I don't think I'll ever go back. I like the idea of a relatively barebones android phone but after that experience ( which I've heard they never actually fixed?) I don't think I'd ever give it another shot.
I do what I do at every Pixel a-series release. I go on ebay, buy a cheap and working previous gen a-series for around $80-100usd.
then I do the google store trade in, and get around 150 discount (this time? 180)
then I get the new phone, and sell it at full retail price.
it's nice, every year Google gives me between 50 and 100 usd for free.
