If the w stands for white then you are implying that there could be black anglo-saxons. Beyond the ridiculous of that to say white anglo-saxon necessarilly implies that anglo-saxon isn't necessarily white in order to justify needing to put the term white in front of it to differentiate it.

Honestly, and this is a point that most Brits don't like to admit, America played a critically important and necessary role in establishing the British Golden Age (that remains the pinnacle of human culture and civilisation). By serving as a dumping ground for anyone too dumb, too criminal, or too Celtic to be of use to British society America, particularly the original 14 colonies, was a vital part of Britain's ascent in the world.
