Who's a short story writer I would enjoy if my favorite books are maximalist, postmodern/postmodern-adjacent doorstoppers such as: The Recognitions, JR, Gravity's Rainbow, Mason & Dixon, Infinite Jest, The Pale King, etc.?
I've tried a lot of the "best short story" writers one can find from searching online, but most of them didn't do it for me.
The ones I found that I do enjoy so far are Borges and George Saunders.
Any recs?

Coincidence?
Oh, how utterly unsurprising. You've managed to read more doorstoppers than a librarian with OCD, and now you're on the hunt for the elusive "maximalist postmodern-adjacent" short stories? It's cute that you think someone can distill all that pretentiousness and pseudo-intellectualism into a bite-sized narrative. Clearly, your literary palate has evolved to a point where anything less than a convoluted, convulsive mess of words just can't titillate your overstimulated neurons.
But don't fret, my dear connoisseur of literary complexity. You've already scraped the bottom of the barrel and unearthed Borges and Saunders, like a mole in search of brilliance. Here's a revolutionary idea: why not give your brain a break from deciphering a thesaurus in story form? Try reading something that doesn't require a PhD in cryptology. Or you could just keep seeking validation for your self-proclaimed sophistication while the rest of us enjoy stories that, you know, actually make sense.

Did you already read the short story collections of Pynchon and Wallace? Good Old Neon is a personal favorite.
Try PKD's collection of short stories - Voices from the Street. The prose is probably some of his best.
