False. The American 'black experience' is not only fundamentally American, but fundamentally different from any other 'black experience' on the planet. To have suffered the 'peculiar' species of oppression they have for nearly twice as long as they have since been 'freed,' yet at the same time to be (and to have been) as culturally dominant as they are in the most powerful, and therefore most culturally dominant, nation on Earth, is literally fantastic, and therefore among the more worthy objects of study in this country, as well as others who want to understand America, or the inevitable Americanization of their own country.

Here's a challenge deshawn, come up with a story that doesn't involve victimization, are you creative enough to do that, could you even sell it to your own community? Aren't you morons tired of using the white man as a prop in your stories?

>sell it to your own community
Principally, my community is 'the American community' (at large) because writing for or torward 'that (United) one' is the only one that makes viable economic sense.
The 'black community' idea has I admit worked wonders for black people, but really it's only just an idea, at most a positive 'spiritual' something, but that's it. There is no correspondent, or socially viable, 'white community' because almost from the beginning whites have preferred to style themselves as 'individualists,' which is fine, perhaps even a common goal, but one that is at least some way from being met by everyone. >Rinse, wash, repeat
Works two ways, Sam. My counter-challenge to you is to read over your posts here (or the ones addressed to /me/)and tell me with a straight face that similar ones do not occur across the boards here hundreds of times daily. Now, in the vastness of your imagination, how would (you) respond if (you) were black? My guess is not the way that I am responding to (you) right now, but, who knows? Maybe

What you are even on about? israelites usually victimize themselves even when they are the assailant. Rabbis literally operate non-profit organization dedicated for censorship and discredit of public figures, they practice usury on large scale and cunningly steal properties unironically.

You can dress it up all you want, but your obsession with emancipation and the chains that no longer exist is just a slightly less vurulent form of petty nationalism.
Americans behaved this way in the early 19th century; obsessed with the tyrannical redcoats.
Southerners behaved this way in the late 19th and early 20th century; obsessed with the evil Yankee.
Indians and other former colonies behave this way now; obsessed with the white devil.
It does nothing but hamper your cultural development. You write about what your culture revolves around. You have yet to reach thematic maturity.
You are in the ‘Last of the Mohicans’ stage.
You should aim for the ‘Moby Dick’ stage and keep moving forward.

Sharpish >black (sic) American culture
isn't going anywhere; from my perspective, that's a problem..
Clinging to years of white oppression as a kind of Linus blanket does limit international viability so far as letters are concerned, I admit. But that clears a space. Anyone who writes must endeavor to see the future, or why bother?
americans think their puny 48 million black population represents the rest 1 billion of blacks, they have a very myopic view on black experience
>im confused
What is wrong with euros that they can't understand what "black" and "white" mean racially? Black means sub-Saharan African. White means northern European. Can you please stop being so fricking confused now?
William Edward Burghardt Du Bois, souls of black folk
> this sense of always looking at one’s self through the eyes of others, of measuring one’s soul by the tape of a world that looks on in amused contempt and pity. One ever feels his two-ness, an American, a Black; two souls, two thoughts,
two unreconciled strivings; two warring ideals in one dark body, whose dogged strength alone keeps it from being torn asunder.
>They that walked in darkness sang songs in the olden days –Sorrow Songs– for they were weary at heart. And so before each thought that I have written in this book I have set a phrase, a haunting echo of these weird old songs in which the soul of the black slave spoke to men. Ever since I was a child these songs have stirred me strangely. They came out of the South unknown to me, one by one, and yet at once I knew them as of me and of mine.
yup. notice how black identity is only ever affirmed, while white identity is only ever undermined, unless it's to castigate white people (the same thing as undermining).
It's a scientifically proven fact that races exist. There are even substantial differences between ethnicities that separate us within our respective races
Achebe is not GREAT-great, but Things Fall Apart is an actually perfect novel, and his other stuff is generally quite good.
I don't read plays so I don't care much about BASEDinka, but people who like that sort of thing say he's good.
Most "African" Americans have substantial European ancestry so they aren't really Black, just brownish. I will call them "black" out of politeness but I won't use the capital B unless they are really dark, I'm not running a charity here. St. Augustine wasn't very melinated but he was from Africa so he is Black. And Dante was Italian, so he's Black too.
For some reason I have always assumed that Toni Morrison is terrible, but even I.N.C.E.L. chuds on IQfy sometime say she's good so maybe I will read her sometime. I will need to see a picture with proper white balance to determine if she meets my exacting standards for Trve Blaqqness.
Frederick Douglass. He's the only black author I've read but he's also pretty good, I usually hate stuff written before the early 20th century but his writing seems to transcend that
idk as a south african, there isnt much this side, besides apartheid and social justice, and pretty much burnt out on all of that (we were force-fed to constantly talk about the damages of apartheid and for some reason WW2 and the holocaust) which i get, were tragedies but like..is there more? I like european literature because despite you guys going through your own tragedies and atrocities, at least you have people like dickens, melville, cervantes etc who talk about adventure, excitement, there is a sense of a pastoral environment, a world thats more than the bogged down, trite platitudes of equality, equality and equality. i dont know if im making sense, so I'll say my favourite author would be Thomas Sowell (ironic)
More important question: why does it matter if he's black? I guess you are in favour of Whites asserting their ethnic interests/identities. Or that would be the case if you were consistent and fair. But normally people like you call that White supremacy. Well, you aren't high IQ or really knowledgeable enough to understand it, but if you ever were to succeed at unifying black identity to the point that it had any actual influence, the backlash from the original US ethnic stock would be tremendous.
Puerile. >Why does it matter if
she's a woman.. or if he or she is Portuguese, Mexican, or Eastern European? The obvious point is to limit a set of responses; if you're not in favor of such questions, say so. So, what's your favorite book, anon? Mein Kampf? >I guess you're in favor of..
One has to live in a city of at least 150k people to attend a Greek, Italian, or Portuguese festival (Boston), anon-- as instances. I've been to a few. Otherwise, American Whites have only political identities, and they're divided. Arguably religious identities too, but they're even more divided. Any generic white 'movement' (whenever attempted) always tentatively stumbles out of the shadows as ridiculously awkward because clearly fake. The strength of whites is their belief in political liberty and individual freedom; if they abandon that, they abandon their extra-political, extra-religious selves. But not everyone can be white, anon. Sorry! >unifying black identity...any actual influence
If this is a failure, then (you) should have no problem. Whites attempting to imitate Blacks in this respect is almost always laughable, however --no offense. >original US ethnic stock

No
Thomas sowell
Good choice. I was going to say Octavia Butler.
Dumas and Pushkin
Lmao this is the same as saying that MLK is your favorite white civil rights activist because he had Irish ancestry.
this lol
Odd how most "black" cultural figures were half or quadroons. White genes doing all the heavy lifting, eh?
St. Augustine
Dumas
Bob Kauffman
Race is a social construct

>3/4 white man is black
For fiction it's Walter Dean Myers, Sunrise Over Faluja and Fallen Angels are great books
I don't think I've ever read a black author. Any legitimate reccomendations would be appreciated.
I don't read westslop
Alexander Dumbass
Charles R. Saunders. His Imaro series of books are basically Conan but in an African setting, really great if you're into those kinds of stories.
Alexandre Dumas
Chester Himes
>Alexandre Dumas
>3/4 white man is black
Thomas sowell is alright, Alexander dumas if you can even count that Black person as black.
Dumas, Ellison, Baldwin, Neale-Hurston (in no particular order).
blacks can read?
Octavia butler.
If he counts (he probably shouldn't) then Dumas instead.
Achebe is not GREAT-great, but Things Fall Apart is an actually perfect novel, and his other stuff is generally quite good.

What happens to White farmers in SA today is worse than apartheid or whatever boomer cringe sentimentalism that word is meant to invoke.
I didn't argue that.
But anon, that would ban most blacks. You didn't really think this through, did you?
