KWin scripts and KDE widgets can be written in many script languages (which is a more secure approqch than using raw binary like GNOME)

The great thing about GNOME is that although I don't use GNOME, they often make changes to GNOME that somehow magically frick up programs I do use.
Maybe you should try using one of the lighter desktop environments like LXDE or MATE instead of your tinkertroony bloatware.

Wow, that uses more idle RAM than my Windows VM. This isn't some slimmed down version of Windows either, it's a full fat W10 Pro install with a few tweaks applied to disable some of the crapware, that's it.
Pic related isn't even really "idle" either, there's shit like Slack in the background, work VPN software and so on. If I were to close everything it'd be even lower I guess.
